Am American. Have driven a stick shift all my life because it’s cheaper.

It’s fine, but I think my next car will be automatic for convenience.

But you are kinda right if I’m honest. My sister once drive my car, stalled in the middle of the road, then burst into tears and called our mother. Had to go out and get her and people just drop around her lol.

    >we could not afford the more expensive automatic transmissions for decades and so developed a sense of pride in manual and now even though we could have automatic transmissions which are objectively better particularly in the era of CVTs we still stubbornly stick to a point of pride in being primitive and backwards

I learned to drive stick when i was a kid. Sure i can understand its fun. I imagine its like when i slowly cycle the action of my levergun just to hear all the clicks and clunks as things fall into place. But you know thats not efficient for shooting and manuals are not efficient for driving.

If you gotta commute or just go a hundred miles in an absolutely straight line to get to the next city you want something thats automatic, and has a cupholder.

    WHAT CARS DOES AUSTRALIA MANUFACTURE!?!??!?
Oh, thats right, none, the mode of transportation most commonly manufactured in Australia is chinese feet. So fuck you, fuck you right in your sandy australian cunt you fucking homosexual.

now that thats out of the way. Why does it, why the fuck cant i buy a 2023 Audi RS4 with manual transmission. I dont want that triptonic paddle shifter shit. I want to feel the engine through the clutch in my hand as i shift. also can we please remove power steering, women should not be allowed the to drive I want to really feel the road with my hands on the steering wheel. And we dont have these things because we allow women to drive and because sadly many of our men are pussified homosexuals. Also most people dont really like driving the way a driver does. its just work for them so they want it easy.

Having the wheels randomly spin out on the snow and thus the clutch giving NO realistic feedback, It was a straight up nightmare. You basically have to guess about the amount of gas and the gear to use in this situation. I would rather just use an automatic. And that isn't even counting stop and go city traffic, which sucks nearly as much. Manual is a fucking nightmare in the US.

Not in Europe. I have lived extensively in the US and Europe, there is a massive difference in attitudes towards cars and dependence on cars convenience. Even though our public transport is much better than the US's getting to and from work for many would be a massive pain if they had EVs with their limited ranges. People I know regularly commute 70 miles each way, every day along very crowded roads, and VERY few EV recharge points available. You would need tens of thousands of ultra-fast recharge points around London, as an example, to satisfy the demand that would be created. People just wouldn't tolerate even more travel time waiting to refill their vehicles.

That would change quickly if there was a push fior electric cars, duh.

Not in the UK. The layout of cities, towns and villages just does not suit EV recharging. Most towns in the US do. Americans are used to driving around towns quite easily, they are designed that way. Americans drive between stores which are laid out in an accessible way, work is done is a mostly concentrated area. In Europe this is not the case. Just look at some of our population areas and you may get some idea of the problem. I bet you have never left your home state, let alone your country.

I've never bought into the manual meme, here in the UK automatics are becoming more and more popular so nobody really gives a fuck anymore if you drive one.

Unless you're a car enthusiast who likes going for drives for the sake of it and not to just get from A to B, I simply don't understand why you would not choose an automatic. That's just me though, I see cars as a tool and nothing more so I pick the one that requires the least amount of effort.

This post certainly does confuse me. My first car was a manual, and I just taught my 15yo niece to drive a stick in a shitty manual pickup truck, as is custom, 2 months ago.

What percentage of cars are automatic in Australia? I dont think you thought this through before posting.

The right pedal is to break the far right pedal is to accelerate. They think the clutch is to progress but all it does is lift the clutch plate away from the force that moves it

I have an old Honda with auto trans but I can manually change the gears at any time with paddles on the steering wheel. No clutch needed.

When you get older and your leg joints are fucked up you'll want an automatic transmission. Sorry but outside of some rare occasions auto is just a superiour, comfortable and more expensive variant. Now you're just coping because cant afford.

Cars are driving themselves now but people still feel superiority pretending they're saving gas with standard. Also stop saying "It feels like an automatic when I shift, huh?" when you're bragging to someone in the passengery seat, because it doesn't.
