    selvedge does not always mean raw denim (although most raw denim is also selvedge). Get selvedge jeans in non raw denim and wash properly, you should be able to prevent most fading and keep the original color that way.

    I’m going to piggyback off this thread and request a recommendation for black, soft, fadeproof jeans that are not stiff and rigid and do not have brown stitching.

    It takes literally a hundred plus wears for good selvwdge to start fading if you’re not washing them unnecessarily. Buy two pairs and rotate (don’t wash them) and you’ll have years of basically new looking denim

    uniqlo, they all fade eventually though.
    just wear them like you would with any other pants and ignore the 2012 advice for getting high contrast fades
