No it isn’t. It can literally save your life. Hiking in the wilderness is not the same as in the city.

All sorts of things can happen, you can get stuck the weather can shift, you might be forced to wade through water.

And if something is hecked then it is a lot worse if your feet are wet and cold. And what if you get gangrene and need to cut off your feet to survive. Even experienced mountain men have been known to get stuck and then get gangrenous feet. It is a lot more difficult to get unstuck without feet.

      You obviously don’t hike lol.

generally i think trail running shoes with drainage holes work better than anything gore-tex. i like altra because i like the wide toebox

wading through water is exactly why i say this however i think you are being a bit dramatic on a fashion board

My nigga. I got a pair of Altra lone peak boots I’ll try out next time, the wide toe box is definitely not /fashion/.
Gore tex is alright for day and weekend hikes. If you’re out for an extended period of time in a wet environment you’ll likely end up with wet boots anyway. And you don’t have take them on and off just to cross some stream.

It is allowed to be dramatic. In warm climates I would guess drainage holes would be better. I’m Norwegian so I am just thinking it might be incredibly cold.

They’re sick and have a definite y2k vibe but too expensive given that I would never actually use them for hiking. Anything similar but more affordable?

If you’re asking you don’t know what you’re doing (no offence). Don’t heck around with shitty boots for hiking and go with something which will keep your feet safe because your life may depend on them.
Mammut Brecon is good, other leather boots of the same ilk, make sure it’s goretex.

If you want fashionable get something with less synthetic material and more leather.downside is that it will be heavier, upside it will last longer. Never do full leather for hiking, once water gets in it you are hecked

You are getting 0 function from these. They are a pure fashion brand. Buy salomons for the same kind of look but with actual function

+1 for scarpa. Their boots are solid.
