Are New Balances still in Fashion?

I’ve only worn Old Skool vans and was thinking of trying out a new shoe, was thinking of rocking 574 New Balances (pic for reference) but then the question hit me: are NB still in style? or will I get shit on for wearing "old people" shoes?

depends on your circle. was hanging out with a girl and she asked if i was wearing new balances ironically, but then i visited a friend who’s heavy in the nyc fashion circles and the first thing he said was those new balances are hard as hell. if you trust your own fashion sense just wear what you like

LMAO I was going to comment "if you’re into gay autists go for new balances, otherwise stick to vans" and you just did it for me

      • Anonymous says:

lmao as if vans are better. i’m fine with dressing like a gay autist because i am a gay autist. vans make you look like a middle schooler who just made the switch from having his mom buy his clothes at target to buying them for himself at zumiez. pair with an odd future shirt and a carhartt beanie

Vans aren’t necessarily better, but if you’re straight they’re more likely to hit your public (if you get the right minimalist pair, old skool black and navy always work). At the end of the day you’re dressing for someone, if it’s for yourself do as you please, if it’s for women heed my advice , if it’s for gay autists listen to /fa

yeah i’d have to agree vans are definitely less "objectionable" to the general public, but if your footwear choice decides your relations with women it’s probably already over. my little anecdote ended with us hecking, so it’s evidently not that much of a turn off. strongly recommend just wearing what you want. if you like these that much definitely just get them, they’re pretty cheap anyway.

If you’re a low social skills autist good footwear makes things much easier. Women have a much harder time figuring out I’m a nerd if I have proper shoes.

Obv if you’ve got game you can wear a trash bag and still pull

ppl with that mindset get little to no pussy

It’s only a decade after I started posting here, I finally got the criticisms for posts like this.

OP you’re clearly in HS, maybe early college. You probably live in a podunk fly over part of the country, I lived in rural NC and had the same thoughts.

When you go to a vaguely modern and barely metropolitan area of the country you will realize how ridiculous this question is.

574s have been a menswear staple for years. I suggest you browse J Crew lookbooks from the years past. They are sharp, crisp, and well dressed. Use that to gain your own perspective even if that’s not how you want to dress.

Anyone saying New Balances are old people shoes are out of touch. And even if they are, they can suck a cock if you feel good and confident in them.

This is also an equally bizarre post. Vans are the most simple plimsoll/low top canvas shoe there is. I, nor anyone "fashionable" who wears them are concerned we look like a middle schooler, because we don’t because the rest of our outfits compliments the shoe.

oh shit, are you a reddit mod too?

            >maybe early college
on the money. Speaking of money trying to be somewhat fashionable on a budget. Spending $200-$500 almost seems unfathomable to me. Working on getting my real estate license, so maybe willing to throw some big bucks hopefully in the future.

            >podunk
            Ooo… a big boy word

            > over part of the country
            from Ca, but okay lol

            >browse J Crew lookbooks from the years past. They are sharp, crisp, and well dressed.

Yeah I like the looks. Pretty nice and clean, very well mannered.

            I agree

again, not actively objectionable, they just make me think of shit like this. nobody i know who is interested in fashion owns vans, even the skaters have ditched them for chucks or one stars or sambas. wouldn’t be my go-to safe sneaker

            >they just make me think of shit like this
Yeah I can see where your coming from, shit like this makes me cringe. I just wear Old Skools cause they’re budget friendly and you can stress them out like a motherhecker as each pair can last me a long time. I kinda dig the worn out look of them over time, I feel like it gives each pair of Old Skools I wear their own uniqueness to it as they each have their own broken down look.

obviously this only applies to people with decent aesthetic sensibilities. i’m not telling you to wear a triforce shirt and cargo shorts. but as long as what you’re wearing comes from a coherent, purposeful, honest sense of self you’d be surprised what you can pull off. it’s not what your style is that girls care about as much as whether you have a style in the first place

Very well said, I respect that a lot.

new balance is extremely trendy in university district in seattle

            >from Ca, but okay lol
            >I probably live in a major urban center and I still have to ask about new balance
            shut-in stupid
