Are martial arts real or are they a scam? Should I just lift weights instead?

If I'm a 200lb, lean muscular guy, can I simply use pure violence and raw strength to beat up self-proclaimed amateur MMA fighters who learned some martial arts but might be 50lb lighter than I am and not as muscular?

How quickly can you draw? At what distance would an attacker have to be in order for you to draw, aim and fire, if he's running at you? Guns are great, don't get me wrong but self defense situations rarely occur at 15ft they happen right up in your face. What if you try to draw your gun with an attacker right there and he knows wrestling? Most self defense situations will be up close and someone you know, statistically. If you are a father, the person most likely to punch you is your own son. Murder him with a gun or wrestle him to the ground and sit on his chest?

Depends on height and build. If you are like 6 foot and on steroids then most dudes won't be a problem. What it really comes down to is your spirit. I know how to press your fear.

Its not wise to use any grappling/submission arts when in the street unless youre 100% positive its 1 on 1 and will stay that way

Wrestling is also fake, only good in controlled sporting events. The real king of the streets is going to always be the guy with the biggest brawn and the biggest brain. That's why I listen to Lex Friedman while I do my sets. Believe me, I could probably kill a wrestler with my bare hands if they decided to get me into a street fight.

Boxing/kick boxing is the way to go for real world self defense
BJJ and Judo are entirely dependant on equal numbers and is a detriment if out numbered

Taking someone down in a street fight is a good way to get stomped to death by the persons friends

Judo is literally only about throwing your opponent off balance and is actually really effective versus someone who is expecting you to duke it out with them, throw them on their ass and it's game over for them

Judokas learn more than just throws. Armbars for example.

Ok cool, the actual VALUE of it is throwing your opponent off balance at which point you should stop doing martial arts and just kick the nagger in the dude of the cranium until he isn't breathing anymore.

Imagine thinking you'll use an armbar in a street fight. I'll have already used my street smarts to clock a rock or a piece of plywood, by the time your close enough to armbar youll either be staggered by one of my ranger projectile throws and then I'll use my superior build to initiate a German reverse suplex. This is why you dancers can never be the king of the streets.

Do you only kick box? Wrestling for taking down multiple opponents is probably the most effective. Somebody is going to try and go for a fucking wrist and their head is already in the pavement.

Also, you should train Mauy Thai. Kick boxing is gay and defeatable.

If you want to actually be able to just fucking murder someone in hand to hand, then:

You ever been in a real fight? No? Train in the style you will actually practice. A little bare knuckle training goes a very long way. All the better if you get flexible and fit. Keep in mind most real fight you encounter will be bare knuckle with shoes on. Also remember knives and pistols are common trump cards. So is a fast and hard throat punch/neck strike.

    >can I simply use pure violence and raw strength to beat up self-proclaimed amateur MMA fighters

Yes, but they expect this and usually can catch your violent flails in an arm bar and squeeze you until your shoulder separates, and eventually snaps out of the joint. It can go on. They can hyper-extend other joints as you try to grasp your arm/shoulder in pain. Then, snap those joints breaking and perhaps paralyzing you permanently. You can do as you wish with your extra 50 pounds, but at some point, someone will know how to use your extra pounds against you. And, you pretty much are made into a gimp. It happens a lot, but if you want to try using "violence and raw strength", go for it. See, they can also wait for you to be fatigued and simply cut off your air or blood supply. I prefer air and blood supply at the same time.

Do MMA or Muay Thai. You may win on the ground against a way lighter guy but you will get lit up on the feet if they have training even if he’s lighter

depends on where you take the martial arts. in the US due to all sorts of gay legal issues it's all a scam and bullshit, but if you were to take martial arts in Japan/Korea/Russia or Eastern Europe in general/Brazil and some Euro countries which have no legal barriers from actually teaching you how to kill people then it's a good thing to take. In general if you take MA for 5 or more years then regardless of where you took it you will be waaaaay more fit and ready for a fight than an average Joe.
Lifting weighs is a part of taking MA btw.. Lifting weights alone wouldn't do much for you except maybe turn you gay

That's silly. Keeping that BJJ guy a safe distance away is how you don't get your arm broken while his friends stomp your head. Keeping farther back keeps the Muy Thai guy from cracking your knee. And having contorl over it gives you some entry advantages. Etc.

I think using your head, finding to avoid a situation you described is more useful then learning a martial art.

You dont need to be athletic, muscular, or know how to fight to do that.

Think of karate like milfs.. they get older and get better at pleasing the rod. You don't even need karate really, just make a simple punching motion with your arms after or during your workouts to mesmerize the act- it should become second nature and hard as steel.

I had a kick/thai gym for some years, organized some gala events partyl with different martial arts. in time, you get exposed to the whole spectrum one way or another and in the end, when we talk about anything full contact, they all look kinda the same. Not surprising, given the freedoms or limitations of the human body.

If you want to be a fighter, then go to a sport were you fight often. Every time. In my experience thats mostly kick/thay/box and rather not sports with colorful belts. MMA comes later.

    >Are martial arts real or are they a scam?
    Mostly a scam.
Or, at least the benefit you get from them is not what is typically advertised, though many of the practitioners will explain the reality.
When it comes to fighting, the most important aspect is the "spirit". It's your ability to apply aggression. After that, fitness and strength are the next most important aspects. And only last is "technique". Most martial arts do a shitty job at the first, and reasonable job at the second and very few do a good job on the last aspect.
Where you have two matched individuals in aggression and fitness / strength, then technique and strategy will make the difference but it won't overcome lacks in the former.

If you get exposed to fighting every day, aggression stops counting. aggression only works on a psychological level and as such not very good against daily fighters.

I spar people smaller than me in lethwei. Size is not always an advantage if the other guy has technique/speed. If you are realy big then you could probably eat a few kicks, close the distance and bear hug me to death. But I dunno bro. Have you ever recieved a double leg kick? I've seen big boys crumple to a leg kick. Many legit martial arts. I would recommend thai kickboxing for striking and some kind of wrestling. I like judo but bjj is more well rounded. If you are thinking about training make sure you pick a gym that actually spars. If they don't spar it's a scam.
