It is ok in the same situations that unbuttoning the top buttons of your shirt is. That is if you are not an immature little boy.

Because otherwise your belly hair will stick out if you sit down. Never show it. The guys posted in this thread kind of make it work because their outfit is more casual, but you almost always look better wearing a lower cut undershirt and showing chest instead.

The ones roasting it are the fedora larpers and effete boomers. We have several in this thread.

It works as long as the button shirt is suitably casual in terms of fabric and cut.

What types of shirts and situations is this OK for?

      is on point.

      >t shirt is black with a logo
      Obviously that looks dweebish.

      is borderline.

Never, unless you want to look like a dweeb.

      obviously doesnt work.

To elaborate, its a workwear inspired look and as long as the wearer/setting is at least somewhat compatible with that it can be pulled off.

i once ran out of v-necks (because i hadn’t washed white clothes for a while) and just went with a crew neck under my button up, and a friend of mine immediately told me i look like an old man with that. so even if you don’t mind, others seem to notice quite quickly, even though it might just be a bit superficial women who do.
