Can you pull off this look? Untucked, monochrome button down with jeans or chinos.
Guy in pic is a model, but even discounting his good looks I’m always disappointed with how poorly I can pull off this outfit. The shirts don’t fit as well on me and I’m short (5’9). Thoughts?
its a boring outfit
>its a boring outfit
having more options would make my wardrobe less boring
It’s not meant to be interesting. And that’s unironically it’s strength.
Every normie tries to dress quirky, eccentric or like a hipster now. Dressing like a normal adult is now the outlier.
>Look it’s Bradley Cooper’s outfit from The Hangover again.
This has become the epitome of "I’m a 25 year old kid who just started larping as a real responsible adult male"
It’s pretty basic, looks like a cookie cutter fit that would look eaqually at home in both an h&m ad and a target ad.
Not bad, not great, just meh and tbh it’s a style that’s kinda ill suited for most guys’ lives. When I see fits like these irl I usually think "Oh, cool, he’s trying to dress nice" rather than "look there’s a chad over there"
Yes. This guy gets it. The outfit doesn’t work for a lot of guys the way one might hope.
You seem butthurt about it. Too fat to pull it off yourself?
Nope. Funny you mention fat people though. Fatties unironically benefit the most from this kinda style. Conservative and inoffensive business casual style shows contentiousness which helps diminish the lack of contentiousness signaled by being overweight.
tl/dr: This style is actually good for fat guys because it makes it harder to accuse them of being a slob.
Obvious BS. Fatties wear suits to hide their guts. Wearing simply a shirt doesn’t hide a beerbelly. How butthurt are you to make stuff like this up?
>be me, 25
>become self-conscious about slovenly manner of dress
>transition entire wardrobe to button downs and chinos from target
>read this post
>mfw
this is also me and like every guy at 25
Don’t feel bad bros, you’re just trying to fit in. Wear outfits that compliment your physique and exude confidence.
I would pull that look off his body with my teeth and mount him right there
hot
When I’m not feeling shirt n tie for work I’ve rocked this in the past, always played ‘office casual’ safe with chinos and shirt, sometimes black denim shirt instead.
This is what I wear to work and I pull it off quite well, since I’m slim and wear slim fit shirts.
That said, I wear a bit baggier pants, since my legs aren’t as straight as his.
Do you do untucked or tucked fellas? Tucked feels more appropriate for work environments, not sure about street.
Tucked in dress shirts always looks better. Especially if you roll up the sleeves and open the first 2 or 3 buttons.
>Tucked in dress shirts always looks better. Especially if you roll up the sleeves and open the first 2 or 3 buttons.
Yeah, I agree it generally just looks better. I think the model in OP looks better untucked though,.
That’s because he has that nonchalant air about him where a tucked in shirt would not serve him as well.
It’s not required, but good forearms help you pull this fit off. Also not being fat is a huge plus.
If you’re just hanging out with friends, getting a bite to eat, or getting groceries then untucked makes more sense. A tucked in shirt is considered professional attire these days, and if you aren’t at work or going to work then you’ll be viewed as uptight. I would imagine a lot of well to do women would like this look, but the women I typically go for wouldn’t like it if I wore it outside of a professional environment.
Also, nothing wrong with a boring fit. Depending on where you live and how old you are it can communicate confidence.
Tucked
>OCBDs
>linens
>polos
>dress shirts of course
>thin sweaters
>tailored flannel
>t-shirts
Untucked
>oversized flannels
>utility work shirts
>camp shirts
>short-sleeved button downs
>thick sweaters
>not tucking oversized shirt in the high waisted trousers for that "princess diana in pink ocbd and jeans" look
missed me here
jealous of that beard and hair, it does a lot to seal his look
white sneakers are extremely played out but yes
Alternative for summer please
There’s nothing wrong with white sneakers, they’re just common and you won’t stand out.
Grey is almost as versatile but surprisingly not as common. You could do suede or nubuck too which is pretty good for summer.
If you can’t pull off this most basic of outfits I am sorry to tell you you can’t pull off anything.
yeah its what wear mostly but since thats kinda boring i try to pep it up a little with my sneakers
i used to only wear leather boots and white tennis shoes but now ive been experimenting with yeezys and new balance call me a gay but i like that combo of having a boring outfit with shoes that are pretty damn rare where i live
This is my everyday outfit and has been for years
I always feel too dressed up in plain color shirts for some reason
I share the sentiment. Business casual outside of business environment feels kind of tryhard to me.
>monochrome button down
That’s not a button down shirt, idiot.
hey buddy, how about you stop being rude, eh? thanks.
fine, ‘dress shirt’ or ‘button up’
It looks good because he’s a Chad and /fit/. He could wear anything and look good. Now imagine some dweeb with nerd neck and acne wearing it. It’s also boring as heck.
If you can’t pull off something this basic I don’t know what to tell you
>If you can’t pull off something this basic I don’t know what to tell you
I can’t pull off the untucked look. Tucked is better but it is also very uptight for everyday street casual, like other anon said.
>5’9
we have no choice but to try and only please ourselves and look shit in most situations. god forbid a taller man walks by, we are automatically hecked
yeah, this. guy in OP’s pic is clearly something like 6’2 or 6’3, and he looks lean with a low bodyfat percentage. at that point he could wear anything and it’d look good on him but not others
I’m a giant and I never noticed this.
Are you sure about it?
Maybe I just crossed over into too tall.
I’m sorry about your weight problem, but I’m the same height and most clothes fit me perfectly off the rack. I’ve never been to a tailor and have never felt the need to.
OP here (5’9), every button up/down shirt fits terribly on me. Long sleeves, wrong arm hole size, wrong neck size, long shirt length. I also have trouble finding T-shirts that fit, but more casual clothes are also more "forgiving" if the fit isn’t good.
>Long sleeves, wrong arm hole size, wrong neck size, long shirt length.
"Perfectly" was hyperbole on my part, but outside of the freakish brand, for me most shirts fall within an acceptable margin, but maybe I’m just not too fussy about these things since I nearly always layer my tops. Could be.
>maybe I’m just not too fussy about these things since I nearly always layer my tops
Give me some layer combinations that work for you.
It’s obviously particular to my own style, but I really like pairing dress shirts, bonus if they have a rich texture like wool, with hoodies, regardless of the quality of the latter. I like the clash of formal/informal, and again, it’s part of my own style. I also love the look of hooded vests, Junya Watanabe and Engineered Garments make very beautiful ones with lots of amazing details, and I wear at least one per week, from a collection of several. Of course, casual jackets and regular coats can also be worn depending on your locale. I live in New England so I can get away with a formal look in more casual settings and the colder year-round weather lets one get away with this layered look without comment. Cheers
If you look like this dont talk to me
I don’t know if I pull it off, but this is unironically how I dress every day. Only I don’t use the ridiculous no-show socks. Why would anybody want to look like their going barefeet into their shoes?
it helps us imagine the smell of their feet
also we like to see their ankle hair
I dress like this and I’ve never had sex, if that’s your goal consider dressing in sweats and maybe start selling weed or something.
nobody wants to heck someone that smells like weed
your spouse will smell it on you immediately
So how do you tell from photos whether an outfit only looks good because of the person wearing it vs a regular person of your height and build?
I always obscure the face if it’s a particularly attractive one, but really, nothing beats knowing through experience what suits you and what doesn’t. I recommended spending time at thrift stores and just trying the most random crap you can find to get a feel for what works best with your own features.
That is a bad outfit, the untucked slim fit shirt looks absolutely horrible here. You just think it looks good because he’s a model.
What? How does the untucked shirt look look horrible here?
While I do think I like the photo in part because he is a model, I also think that if I had his height I would want to use this look myself. I want a streetwear option that incorporates nicer shirts without looking stuffy.
>I want a streetwear option that incorporates nicer shirts without looking stuffy.
Wear an untucked, unbuttoned shirt and let your chest fly in the summer sun.
If you can’t pull this off nothing will work for you.
>be me, 5’9
>Medium shirt is too long
>short is too tight
>everyone else’s shirts look perfectly fine
i cant win
Try different brands, not all clothes are cut the same. If most changing rooms weren’t still closed, I would recommend just going to the mall or a department store and trying things on until you find something that fits.
every manlett itt just get a tailor
ffs is not rocket science
shorts guys doing the casual, untucked look still makes them look like a dumb stupid
its more about proportions
as long as you are not in utter dwarf territory you are going to be fine
I am a dumb stupid tho, what now?
The only reason this looks remotely good is because he already looks good. Attractive people can wear lower quality fits and still be recognized at attractive.
Yes.
Looks nice. Is it a chambray shirt?
Ye
I’m pretty sure literally anyone can pull off a button down with chinos, there’s a reason it’s the go to outfit for those "help im 27 and my mom still dresses me" situations
Chinos are fail but yes they’ll self select
I wear this kind of outfit at work a lot. I’m an exhibit artist and I need to look somewhat professional but also wear clothes that can get dirty. I think the key is to keep your fabrics really rough. too smooth and you’re gonna look like a casual friday business dad.
I’m 5’8 and wear this style regularly. You people are delusional. Just buy a made to measure shirt if off the rack doesn’t fit. Jesus
where to buy made to measure shirts online?
this should look good on literally everyone if the clothes fit. if it isn’t working for you, i expect you don’t know color theory or you’re buying clothes that don’t fit well. you can be 5’4" and overweight and still look fine in shit like this.
Since you only pointed out that it’s a untucked shirt, you should maybe learn try to differentiate the types of collared shirts. Some shirts are meant to be untucked or tucked and maybe you are wearing the wrong type of shirt. This model gets a pass for wearing it because his hand placement, as well as being clean cut, hides the bottom curve of the shirt which would be more pronounced if you are conscious about it.
Is it based or cringe to seek out brands that sell "untucked" shirts with a flat bottom curve? Not short sleeve or plaid/"flannel" mind you, ones that look like dress shirts like OP.
Shit dude even Tommy Hilfiger has that shit you don’t have to seek it just pick a brand
And no it’s not cringe, it just fits better
