Cis women may have non-passing faces but only in exceptional circumstances do AFAB cis women actually get clocked as trans. I feel like what TERFs say on this topic is actually on-point, since cis women don't really have to prove that they're women, while for trans women, having a clockable face alone is enough to bring everything else into question.
There has to be some way of gatekeeping the likes of the woodshop hon, despite it being a psyop, the optics of it were absolutely terrible for the trans community at large, but especially for actual trans women. That said, I do not know of a good way to actually prevent those psyops.
I'm actually on the side of requiring at least something like sterilization as a precondition for gender recognition and not necessarily requiring passing, I think it could be a reasonable way of gatekeeping.

I think even non-passing hons should be allowed to change their legal gender as long as they undergo sterelization, I think that was already the law in several places. Without the political pressure from those hons and various john 50s, none of the gender recognition legislation would have likely been enacted in the first place, so I think it's unfair and flat out impossible to keep them out. Criminalization or any other kind of excessive government intervention is not the way to go, it would heavily infringe on personal liberties, it shouldn't ever happen, even to non-passing hons.
I think something like a confirmation that one has had a procedure like an orchiectomy should be enough to undergo a legal gender change.
What do you mean by sterilization?
For trans women, it would be taking estrogen for some time and at least having an orchiectomy, it would have to be a medical intervention that's irreversible.

I prepose the government using some kind of facial recognition software to determine if someone can legally change their gender or not and criminalizing non-passing trans people wearing femme clothes in public
Wtf that's dystopian even straight up cis guys should be allowed to wear female clothes in public. Gatekeeping who a women is would make more sense for women is for legal purposes or like changing rooms. We'd need more gender neutral bathrooms for gatekeeping to work cause NGL clocky trans people are in a lot more danger from cis men than we are to cis women.

I get gendered female much more than I get gendered male even in guy clothes. But tbh most of the time people just don't gender me unless I'm wearing something obvious like a dress or with other girls so they can lump me in with ladies.

sex is immutable. someone appearing to be a woman doesn't make them one biologically. there are men that look completely female but they are still men. the same goes for gender dysphoric males who take hrt.
