I’m surprised you didn’t choose death atlas for cattle decap and the doom ep for job for a cowboy. Solid choices though.

death atlas is very good but doesn't stack up to monolith imo. doom is awesome, sun eater is probably their best album but the aggressive vibe on genesis hits the spot

I'm not a huge death metal fan. There are lots of albums that I think are better than these but these are the ones that I enjoy the most on a personal level. I don't really like Gojira anymore but Terra Incognita changed the way I listened to music when I was a teenager, and I think Harmony Corruption is far from even just a good album, it's pretty bad actually, but it's an album I enjoy a lot. So I'm not coming as an elitist and don't dare call me a poseur.

Necrophagist Epitaph is the greatest death metal record in existence. Never heard anything that even comes close. Can anyone recommend me some and I will give it a try and see if it comes close. It doesnt necessarily have to have technical or neoclassical elements, just any death metal record that u think stands up man to man with Epitaph

      Anonymous

just heard the title track and it's more boring than cannibal corpse. so much of the wankshit (death, atheist, suffocation) just sounds like polyphia/megadeth stuff it's all completely elevator and horrible to listen to. maybe fun to play but each of those bands have maybe 2-3 good songs and the rest is crap

i won't even read what you have to type until you put on the entire record and give the full thing a chance, dirtbag. It blows away any other death metal record you can throw at me. Go ahead I will spin any record you recommend with open mind and i will fairly judge it and compare it to the elite "Epitaph". Go on tough guy, type out three albums and i will give them an honest chance.

Doubt that real hard. It is simply a testament to its excellence. Just finished your song, I concede it was good but if you genuinely think it even holds a candle to Epitaph, you got a sick and twisted world perspective.

Using >greentext and purposefully talking like a retard doesn't change the fact that DEATH METAL is better when it sounds raw and dirty rather than overproduced and mechanical. Teen death metal bands just offer the surface level attributes of the genre while having almost none of the ethos so that way teenagers just getting into metal have a jumping off point that sounds closer to whatever modern pop/rock/punk they listen to.

this is why Epitaph is the pinnacle of all death metal, it has raw production (mostly their first album did but there are remnants on this one) mixed with unbridled technicality, it rides a fine line. This is why I can't get too into modern techdeath, too overproduced. There is an undeniable muddiness that i love about epitaph.

Let me settle this “tech wank” vs “true death metal” with this album: Results by Murder Construct. It’s stupid underrated and it’s an album specifically set out to sound muddy and 90s. But its lineup is all the people you hate: vocalist of cattle decap, guitarist of phobia, and drummer from JFAC. It pays homage to the era you’re stuck in, but the members’ other bands are way bigger. Why? Because music evolves.
