>Never again you will start installing a new game on your windows machine, play outside because the whole process takes fucking forever, come back inside to check if it finished, only to find out the installation had some random error and you can't play the game and must endure sitting at your friends home and play it for 10 minutes at a time
Spent the whole night downloading the RCT2 demo because I lived in an eastern European shithole only to discover it corrupted in the middle of the night and I had to start all over again
downloaded some repacked games back then, they really took 1-2 hours to install.
I don't think the web peaked in the 90 though. For me it peaked around 2005-2012, popular enough, usable speeds but still unaviable for smartphone social media users.
>never again will you wait two minutes for a page to load, and half the images are compressed to shit by your modems built in "speed booster" >never again will you spend 9 hours downloading a 64mb n64 rom >never again will you have to avoid 320kbps mp3 files cause they take an hour to download for one song >never again will you get your ass beat bright red by your dad for running up the phone bill >never again will you look at a 200mb game demo and see it as a completely impossible download
I'm good FUCK the old internet
I remember my mum finding Robb’s Celebs in my internet history and the first image she saw was the screen cap of Jim Carrey sucking a woman’s nipple from some film. Absolute cringe.
>spending your entire fucking allowance on an overpriced gaming magazine cause it comes with a DVD full of game demos your internet could NEVER download
fuck you
>Christmas >im about to get 8mb ram stick >on our way to the store I see game mag with some shitty free games >mom says I can only get one gift >being stupid 11yo I choose the mag >bro tries to stop me (let's ignore cost difference, I was retarded), saying with additional ram I would be able play games from other magazines that we already have >no, I want new magazine >parents happily agree >Christmas time >other family member also bought me the magazine >now I have two exact same game magazines full of games I couldn't play because not enough ram.
>never again scroll through soulful japanese homepages, each site custom made with HTML folded over 1000 times, unable to read anything but looking for download links to KiSS files so you could undress anime girls
Think the first website I saw was gamewinners.com in 2000 or 2001, I was like 5 at the time. I only knew about it through one of my older brothers. We didn't know about search engines and would just type in random domains. I somehow saw porn for the first time (after explicitly looking for it) when I was 13, which I guess is on the older side nowadays.
Everything was so mystical back then...I'm glad I was ruined by porn like a lot of other kids did around 5 years of age.
Whoops, meant wasn't*.
Off topic, but I do wonder if "extreme" porn us actually worse for you outside of morals. I only ever look at instathots and solo anime girls. Usually pictures. Could never get into the whole "watch people have sex" stuff, let alone all the billions of weird fetishes.
Porn is technology btw.
Like it warps your thoughts or something.
When people see X they react with Y. Their reaction is dependent on a lot of things. Seeing Mickey mouse at Disneyland, while being a furry or whatever and immediately thinking about eating his poop. Or just have those insane intrusive thoughts.
I don't know. I guess if you remove morals (or say they are relative) then nothing really is "wrong." But I assume even amoral people have some sort of ego or self preservation where "wrong" are things that create pain or death for themselves. Maybe porn aids in some kind of hidden pain?
I'm just rambling now.
>Seeing Mickey mouse at Disneyland, while being a furry or whatever and immediately thinking about eating his poop.
Apparently that's what you think about when given a very open ended prompt. Do you feel worse off for it? Just for having that thought?

I had to actually come up with it, but yeah, kind of.
it was complete dogshit. I have no nostalgia for that trash whatsoever. the one good thing about this dystopia we live in now is at least the internet is nice.
I first experienced the internet in late 1995 but it didn't start to become a part of my daily life until 1997 then took over my life by 2001 thanks to discovering Newgrounds, Kazaa, maintaining a Geocities page, and had an entire networking base around forum culture. I didn't hate the internet in the 90s and certainly am not going to call it shit. I loved web surfing with having the feeling like I was on some digital grand adventure every single day after coming home from school, on the weekends, and during breaks. However the peak of enjoying the internet was definitely more centered to around 1999 - 2005 on a culture basis. Now if you were older and were more "underground" perhaps this timeline could have been much earlier for you. As there was even more wild west of a feeling in the 90s than the 00s. But things became much more widespread by the 00s. Anyone who claims anything after 2005 was better simply was on more of a consumption basis as streaming videos with YouTube, anime websites, higher quality downloads, etc became more of the norm. You didn't need to rely on going broke spending every dime on anime DVDs, music CDs, and/or anything else media wise you were interested in. Plus emulation was becoming easier and better with each passing year. Early social media wasn't nearly as much of a shitstorm either with websites like Bebo or MySpace as examples. Never jumped into the Facebook scene as it was bland and you couldn't customize your page and it seemed like it was going to be a boring hell hole which it absolutely became. Then Smartphones took over and the internet became literal diarrhea. The biggest way for anyone to experience true internet culture and even enjoy a tiny fraction of the way things used to be would be to figure out a way to utilize a new internet protocol that blocks phone browsing/posting entirely. You would filter out so many of the problems with just that alone. True pioneers of the old web and it's ways for computer users only!!
Thank god. Everything was slow, unfinished and empty. Both usable browsers were buggy pieces of crap.
>Everything was slow, unfinished and empty. Both usable browsers were buggy pieces of crap
It's not any different now.
bruh this had fucking soul, now we're locked on the GAFAM bullshit and I fucking hate it
>everything was slow
It was worth waiting for though, unlike today's garbage. I'd rather wait 10 seconds for gold than have instant shit.
RIP SOVL
>2003
>90s
bitch nigga that's 2003
Good.

Modern day games don't install much faster though

>going to whitehouse.com as a 10 year old and it being porn
I remember it taking 40 seconds to download a low resolution topless image one tiny chunk at a time. Fuck that.
I remember going from 56k dial up to 256k DSL and finally being able to watch 240p streaming porn.
I remember my mum finding Robb’s Celebs in my internet history and the first image she saw was the screen cap of Jim Carrey sucking a woman’s nipple from some film. Absolute cringe.
i used to print out porn because loading the jpegs took so fucking long. also there were no videos
watching the jpeg load line by line and seeing titties for the first time was a trip, though
Kek a teacher of mine got sacked for printing porn on the high resolution graphic design printer.
>zoomoids want to a return to a time when it was faster to print an image with a printer than render it on your monitor
lmao
>Snowing heavy and bored on a friday night
I think i'll surf the web when I get home.
>>You will never surf the web in the 90s again
Not true, just wait for the 2090s.
Humanity will cease to exist in 2067, anon.
What happens in 2067?
*chuckles softly*
Wouldn't you like to know.
What will the Internet be like in 2090?
>spending your entire fucking allowance on an overpriced gaming magazine cause it comes with a DVD full of game demos your internet could NEVER download

Could some sort of event cause a web implosion and subsequent scramble back to something resembling the old web?
only if the event is all normies dying
estimate on the chances of a carrington event happening during your lifetime range from 10% to 65%
that's pretty high chances, I like it
Reddit shutting down
>never again scroll through soulful japanese homepages, each site custom made with HTML folded over 1000 times, unable to read anything but looking for download links to KiSS files so you could undress anime girls
my dad beat me when he found my kiss dolls
Just go on eroscape nagger, japanese internet still looks the same
this shit looks like gachalife which is very much alive
clinging to the past is the cause for alot of pain
You miss being young. The 90s weren't that great and the hardware sucked.

In what ways?
Like it warps your thoughts or something.

Just 67 more years to go until you can do it again anon.
