I fucking loved Google SketchUp. We had an architecture class in high school, and I would just fuck around building housing models using SketchUp for hours while it was free. I miss it
Ceiling is the underside of the structure. The roof is the top surface; the entire structure on top is the roof structure. Ceiling is architectural; roof is structure.

I noticed you chose to ignore your mislabeling of the floor. Typical europoor tricks.

Floors are called floors; what the fuck are you talking about?
Yes
A lot of what made SketchUp good is that it’s super simple and reasonably capable, if someone’s never used 3D software before they can figure out SketchUp pretty quick. And it has a large variety of uses though none too complex.
I used to use it for rough drafting of basic architectural stuff, it’s quick and easy to use so I was able to in real time put together a visualization of a project while discussing it with someone.
You can’t really do that with AutoCAD (without being a CLI god).
SketchUp is not suited for super high detail stuff and definitely not for high complexity meshes of any variety, but you can do a lot with minimal effort using it.
I still use SketchUp 8 now and then to do motherboard mock-ups for repair documentation.
What I could never understand is how someone didn't just make a FOSS clone of this. It was simple and intuitive. We have Blender and various CAD clones but not this. Why not?
Funny because SketchUp is the 1st program they teach in architecture school because it's so easy to learn and use

Revit is great for teamwork and technical drafting, but personally I think SketchUp and ArchiCAD allow for more creativity and specially if you work alone
you can, right this second, download the original and free GOOGLE version of Sketchup (made when google was actually good), before it changed hands and got paywalled.
Sketchup has a low barrier to entry, the tools you learn to use in the first hour of use are the tools you'll use to make everything. Same for OpenSCAD. Sure the actual method of modelling is obtuse, but the fact that it's parametric modelling software makes it really useful for design changes that propagate. It's not actually complicated in the same way that FreeCAD is.
>2023
>still no alternative
sweethome3d is literal alternative from FAGMAN
>from FAGMAN
Dropped. FOSS only
Also looks complex as shit. Might as well use blender then
why did people use this of all programs to make transformers animations
ynr?
You now remember, maybe?
That makes sense.
>you'll never replace
>you're not replacing
>you never require

That is called a ceiling, peasant.

It was about as easy to use as ms paint, but made things in 3d.

Got filtered by the gay as user interface. Not intuitive at all, imo.

What the fuck is this retarded thread? SketchUp still exists and it's still free.
So comfy yet so proprietary. It's not fair.

enjoy, I have been using it frequently recently
Why did you quote me? I just said it's proprietary. I still use it occasionally on GNU/Linux with wine, but I wish it was free as in freedom.
OpenSCAD is that way
lolwut? The good thing about sketchup is its simplicity. If I need something more complex I'll just use blender.

>the original google version
huh? the original one was made by last software before google bought them
it's changed hands again?
google has ketchup??
you have no idea how frustrating it was to try and use this piece of shit on a tiny netbook in high school
>3 easy steps
>step 1: draw plan
>step 1: import home plan
>step 1: draw walls
>step 1: adjust walls thickness & angle
>step 1: place doors & windows
>step 1: add room floors
>step 2: draw the rest of the fucking owl
