This basically. I think what's happening here is that Japanese design philosophy has always been form follows function. They favor designs that are actually practical and usable. That's why they aren't following lots of the shitty recent design trends
This.
Once websites grew out of the 90's neon backgrounds they really peaked, I'd say from circa 2005 to about 2013/4 was the period of greatest usability.
Just go to YouTube tight now and tell me that's more usable than picrel
newtube is easily more usable the way it is now it just looks like dogshit. a real upgrade would be replacing the entire top half of the screen with an emulated console with yt-dlp. when you interact with anything it fucking seamlessly does the equivalent in plain view in the emulated console.
>Japan is incredibly advanced
No it's not, they just implement technologies which most other governments can't be half-assed to install, either because of corruption, little need for it, or because of their citizens. Either way, most of the things that make Japan technologically advanced in the eyes of a baka gaijin are niche.
Blame google, Sites are ranked based on viewing time and conversions, so instead of web designers making functional sites, they make it so it maxes out wasted time without getting the viewer to leave.
It is updated, the site has its own mobile version like most japanese sites. But they are extremely functional.
Japanese people don't chase trends and they don't replace things that just work. That's why they've been under the same dynasty for 2500 years and still use fax.
Japs are extremely racist, retarded and conservatives, they value habits, traditions and all of that hit more than their live, so they don't like change, they got to make websites that way in the past, and they haven't changed it, the end.
Can anybody explain what yahoo even does nowadays?
They killed their engine years ago and now just use bing's index and their email deletes your account if you don't pay, the only unique thing they had was answers and they killed that too.
It's over >As of August 26th, 2021 Yahoo India will no longer be publishing content. Your Yahoo Account, Mail and Search experiences will not be affected in any way and will operate as usual. We thank you for your support and readership.
The explanation I've heard is that easterners tend to prefer to view the page holistically and then focus in on individual pieces while westerners tend to focus on each piece and don't really care about the aesthetics of the whole.
we all saw the youtube video of that woman.
and in the comments actual IT people from Asia are saying that the sites are cluttered because they couldn't be assed to clear it up but more and more sites are going "western style"
Security through obscurity, even if the Pajeets and Russians get a hold of the data, they're too fucking retarded to learn Japanese to read and interpret that data they've stolen.
Japan is incredibly advanced but also really behind at the same time
Behind on the decline.
Websites were just better designed in the past.
This basically. I think what's happening here is that Japanese design philosophy has always been form follows function. They favor designs that are actually practical and usable. That's why they aren't following lots of the shitty recent design trends

Japanese internet still has soul.
This.

They mere abstain from fixing what isn't broken
I want to know why you haven't thought about the possibility that the cause of the difference is that both have different developers.
OP believes that a multinational operates with a single php and each country simply creates a translation file.
It isn't a multinational, Yahoo! Japan is a completely separate company.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yahoo!_Japan
Im mad that they changed the requirements to need a japanese phone number, lost my account of 3 years due to it.
For the other countries, yes. almost all countries yahoo "serves" are just the US services localized.
because it's never been updated and japs are 20 years behind

It's purely information based. US is a ton of clickbait evidenced by the images taking up 50% of the screen.
>left
sensationalist shit
>right
lots of useful information without flashy images
hard gay
This is such a pain to access if you live in Europe
Japanese people don't chase trends and they don't replace things that just work. That's why they've been under the same dynasty for 2500 years and still use fax.
Japanese culture makes zero accomodation for brainlets and the subnormal. Everyone is expected to function at average or above.
most people use yahoo jp on their phones
that's where they actually focus on updating the ui
iirc Japanese Yahoo isn't even owned by Yahoo.
Yahoo is still a serious business there.
It's because the japanese typefaces, they cannot be scaled and fucked with as the latin ones. this is pretty based imo
Japs are extremely racist, retarded and conservatives, they value habits, traditions and all of that hit more than their live, so they don't like change, they got to make websites that way in the past, and they haven't changed it, the end.
Good!
south korean and chinese internet looks exactly the same, stormer
Still Based
So they still show up the western cancerous garbage but fit in to a small non-invasive column, which is how it should be done.
Japan is conservative and doesn't change shit for no reason like female driven western companies obsessed with the latest fashion trends.
Same as yahoo taiwan. It is still using the same style pretty much as back in 2000s internet days.
looks 2002
looks 2012
Could it possibly be because there is a cultural difference between Western countries and the Japanese?
Lack of diversity and a language barrier which slowed the invasion of American culture.
The users are capable of absorbing and appreciating high information density, the designers are not interested form over function.
It's amazing to me that yahoo even still exists. How?
I really wish EU start nagging companies into making sites that didn't need 30MB of useless javascript to run.
They could say that they were doing that for fight global warming, or save the whales or whatever the fuck EU regulations are for...
Design is pretty much what US Yahoo was 2 decades ago. Yahoo Japan is also a wildly different entity than its US counterpart.
Can anybody explain what yahoo even does nowadays?

yahoo 😐
yahoo, japan :O
IT in Japan is still in the early 90's.
but more and more sites in Asia are going for less clutter
The explanation I've heard is that easterners tend to prefer to view the page holistically and then focus in on individual pieces while westerners tend to focus on each piece and don't really care about the aesthetics of the whole.

Sounds like a load of steaming bullshit to me
Differing stylistic desires. Japan values information more than glitzy design.
Using the old Yahoo! logo sovlful nippon
Security through obscurity, even if the Pajeets and Russians get a hold of the data, they're too fucking retarded to learn Japanese to read and interpret that data they've stolen.
