Is that my nigga William Vollmann? I actually read part 1 of Rising Up and Rising Down in college, and meant to read the other volumes, but they are hilariously expensive. I'd have to go back to a university library to finish the series.
I just bought a copy of the abridged one volume version at a bookstore for $10
Haven't read him yet but I do have a copy of Europe Central I intend to do so with soon. I read his recent article in Harper's and it mentions that he was dropped by his publisher at the end of last year because he refused to abridge his latest book and it also used too many fonts, so he must have something big coming in not too long.
Europe Central absolutely rules, listen to this before you read it:
>He's like a highbrow George R. R. Martin.
Not at all. Vollmann continues to put out high-quality works even if they're not part of the Seven Dreams. He published two other books just this year. From the beginning, it was never his prerogative to write and publish all of the Seven Dreams one after the other, or even in order.
Our ugliest kings have the most beautiful souls.

it's not that bad for something they made only 3500 of
They'll republish it some day, just wait bros, as of this year it's officially been twenty years.
No because he’s actually an Ivy League educated tranny who writes shitty pomo-adjacent books about Mexican laborers and Muslims and gets awards for that but he looks like a mouthbreather and dresses like a chud so even people on this board pretend the books are good. If anything, it just proves the power of clothing.
Yeah, I think when you’re celebrating a mentally ill tranny with multiple personality disorder who worships foreign cultures and writes shitty pomo books, the culture really has fallen. There’s no hanalogue for that to be found anywhere and if you think that’s fine, normal, natural, you should wonder if maybe something has gone wrong for you.

He's always been based.
Why would someone want to read Vollmann?
He seems like he could be my third favourite author of all time (behind Tolkien and Umberto Eco) but I'm not sure, I feel like I'd be disappointed
His daughter just drank herself to death. Sad shit. He’s been writing the last Dream for like 30 years, it’s about the uranium mines on Navajo land or something. He’s a good writer despite himself. Desperately needs an editor but he’s too egotistical to admit it. Prose is occasionally heartstoppingly beautiful, occasionally unbearably pompous
>His daughter just drank herself to death.
Makes this article especially sad to read.

I've always heard this guy is great, but he's so ugly, bros. What's up with that? Would you give up a handsome face for his talent?

Not just ugly, straightup retarded looking
Doesn't this refute physiognomy?

He has also been shot and was injured in an explosion.
Isn't this guy an unironic troon lol
No, he just likes crossdressing
Yeah. He even writes about trannies in his books, including one about tranny geishas.

this board is a joke.

Why are you even here? Back to plebbit.
>we just made the exact same thing but you have to ask
Sounds like you're the one with the mental issues too me 😉

Thanks for the heads up on the recent Harper's article by WTV. I downloaded it and will be reading it shortly, after getting off LULZ.
I really can’t stand this “guy” or “his” books.
Terrible physiognomy, absolutely would not read.
>when you see it

Why would you even think that without having rea him?
Reading his wikipedia article

>occasionally unbearably pompous
I often hear this, but I don't understand it. Can you provide an example? I think that his prose is consistent.

I will post in every Vollman thread that I believe he is CIA
