        thats if you go from extreme hot to cold. the only way this can happen is if you plug out your pc mid game. if you use your pc like normal, the fans will equalize the temperature rather than do a sudden drop.

          Not even that, in those cases the minimum the components can go is room ambient temperature. Damages occurs if the temperature suddenly drops from hot to cold very fast (less than ~2 seconds).

    Is there a problem with doing this? I've done this my entire life, shutting down when sleeping and starting fresh when waking up. Even when I had an abysmal computer that took forever to boot I still would. I have even more reason to now that I'm using zram for /tmp and /var/tmp so it gets cleared every day

      In practice you will have replaced parts before they break due to this, so doesn't matter

    I leave my desktop computer on all the time, unless I know I won't be using it for a while, then I turn it off and leave it off for several months/until I feel like using it again. I don't know if that's the reason my 10 year old hard drive is still going strong, but seeing as my electricity is dirt cheap and my power draw low I don't really care
