    reactos is still shit

because linux has actually received meaningful updates in the last 20 years

Maybe if we put more effort into reactos it would turn out better than Linux. but no one wants to do that. NT is a better platform that Linux.

        >Maybe if we put more effort into reactos
the developers are obsessed with their religious notion of "clean room" so you wouldn't be able to improve the state of affairs no matter how hard you tried

no because nobody that actually knows how to do systems programming wants to work with something that isn't UNIX-like

VMS process model is much more appropriate to multi-core NUMA architectures

          >no because nobody that actually knows how to do systems programming wants to work with something that isn't UNIX-like
It's the opposite. People who know systems programming think Unix is completely retarded. Fork is the stupidest way to create processes imaginable. Unix doesn't even do system calls right. EINTR was mentioned in the Worse is Better paper as an example of how Unix is wrong. Doing it the right way is actually simpler than doing it the Unix way. The I/O is also retarded. Get-a-byte, get-a-byte, get-a-byte-byte-byte!

Windows and Mac shills call Linux a "hobbyist" OS, which is retardedly wrong. ReactOS really *is* a "hobbyist" OS. It's not useful for anything but tinkerers who have the horribly bad taste to think that NT and Win32 are well-designed or worth using.

Wasn't it created from leaked Windows code and now developers don't know what to do with it? I agree that NT is better than Unix, but we should write it (or something even better) properly, from scratch.

afaik is the opposite. they are afraid of using leaked nt code. and that is why they are stuck.

At this point, is it even possible for Microsoft to make the original Windows NT or Windows 9x source code open sourced? It might threaten their dominance in the OS market but everyone knows that Windows is not their biggest moneymaker.

No, because what's in it for them? As far as they're concerned it's money, effort and (the lawyers will tell them) risk, for zero additional revenue.

      >it might threaten their os dominance
      no it wont retard
microsoft lets academia and partners look at the source tree already no point in making it open source but they could probably

Sort of like how VSCode is open source and then they throw their special telemetry sauce on it for production

If you hate Linux so much you're still better off sticking with Windows 7 than ReactOS.

I bet if you asked OP why NT is better, he wouldn't be able to answer. Or worse, he'd give a dictionary definition of one of NT's 30-year-old failed experiments like hybrid kernels or subsystems.

How many 0day exploits this endeavor of reverse engineering Windows has provided the involved parties?

I really, really want ReactOS to work. But at this rate we're going to get to 1.0 in like 2080.

Ironic how GNU/Linux with Wine runs Windows software better than the OS trying to replace Windows.

If I was intelligent enough I’d help. As this would make it thank windows wouldn’t be necessary in the (distant) distant future. Then we’d have Linux for Unix and reactos for NT. But as I said I’m not comfortable enough in C to commit anything

There's no OS I'd like to use more than ReactOS.
Unfortunately it's still very alpha, very unusable.

I like the ReactOS project, but it's not usable as a daily driver at the moment.
