That's a false dichotomy.

1) You have to be truly despicable to do all that it takes to make it on that path. I mean EVERYTHING it takes. You might get quarter-way before you start finding things you just can't bring yourself to do, things that could get you arrested/lynched/etc, it's more extreme than internet LARPers would have you think.
2) You don't just undo others, you undo yourself. Many people just don't know how much they are animated by their own senses of justice. You throw that away and suddenly you're working for the people you hated, creating more people like your present self and your reward is to STILL be a worthless peon.
3) If you have to sabotage others to surpass them, you have to sabotage each new person you compete with. You risk being caught every time. Compare that to simply bolstering yourself, your superiority stays a concrete fact. Risks of retribution still exist, but you not only have the high ground it is also much easier to defend what is yours.
What makes you think one hand's path is easier than the others?
What rules do you think are keeping you from climbing? Do you think a right path practitioner doesn't bend demons over the knee and get them to work for good that helps elevate him too?
