They're only useful if you intend on heavily relying on them for extra RAM (ie do big 3D/CAD/video editing on 16GB RAM) otherwise they're a complete waste of money and aren't going to make things load faster.

Also it's important to keep in mind that the RAM performance of an SSD varies based on capacity since modern day SSDs are actually similar to RAID 0 arrays. So a 250GB 980 pro for example is actually really dogshit when used as RAM.

There is a reason they are not out yet for consoomers.
They are useless for the pleb, have been since PCI 3 really
Even the hardware manufacturers understand PCIe 5 SSDs are pure excessive decadence and spec jerking. They are literally practicing restraint because to sell a PCIe 5 SSDs like it has any value or advantages for the average PC gaymer is snake oil salesman teir.

And you see how long it took them to even be announced after the enterprise already had them?
It's useless, even the hardware manufacturers understand it, that's why there is no rush.

There's no reason to push sequential reads/writes higher for consumers. I'm not feeding and syncing a big old ramdisk or moving a ton of files in and out of cache.
And sustained random read isn't really getting better for muh games and muh game loadtimes.

          >ITS USELESS ITS USELESS
ever heard of the prosumer market?
          retards

And consumer M.2 drives are useless for them.
Try to fill up a consumer drive you'll realize how cucked the speeds really are.

Quit simping for companies trying to sell you bullshit.
If someone really needed the speed, they would already have s PCIe 5 drive and not wait for their favorite gaymer hardware manufacturer to release theirs.

No real reason to push random either
Those million+ IOPs only come into play at high queue/thread counts. Something neither Windows or most games are optimized for.

Personally I've seen a lot of load time improvements on windows and windows applications on optane vs gen 3 ssd.

Because Optane can push IOPs at low queues/threads
Optane really is the best solid state storage for desktop but marketing for SSDs is such a misleading hellscape.

Okay now for real: you don't need that. SSD speeds have been excellent for a while now. Users don't need this shit.

Gen 4's will be just fine with years to come. If you care about gaymen, it's only recently games are starting to taking advantage of those speeds.
