      They don’t it’s just shills

I support public transport and commuter trains in the environments where it works and cars where they work

      The argument usually goes
      >left: everyone needs to live like an urban millennial in nyc and if you don’t we will make you
      >right: just leave my truck alone senpai/ why should I pay for a train I’ll never use

That’s mostly it. As usual the left is unreasonable but frames the right as unreasonable. However the right is obstructionist

The problem in the US is that outside major cities most places have banned mixed use zoning and have idiotic zoning laws in place like minimum required parking spaces (which will be 80% empty most of the time). Allow mixed use zoning and get rid of zoning laws that favor automobiles to the exclusion of everything else and let the free market sort it out. If people actually want to live in suburbs 30 minutes removed from anything else they still can. My guess is that many places will end up looking like pic related.

The left also thinks the entire nation is comprised of the few megahomosexual cities they inhabit and have their spheres of influence in.
Mass transit systems only work in super population dense areas but leftoids don't even know what a fucking farm looks like but they demand all states should ban trucks.

Right leaner here and I'm in the camp that defends train lines.
The rust belt in NY and PA were helped built up by train lines connecting small towns to larger population centers and it worked. It was with the rise of cars, airlines, and highway systems that led to the decline. What makes more money for the overload elites? Cars / gasoline or trains / coal.

          Farmers don't have to commute.
Their job is right where they live.

It's suburbanites who are dependent on cars.
You can easily put train stations in suburbs.

The issue is as follows. Left wingers tend to be city fucks. Right wingers tend not to live in cities. Left wing people tend to think there is a one size fits all solution to every problem. They tend to think that what is good for their urban shithole, is good for rural Alabama. So when something like walking instead of driving is pitched, it tends not to dawn on left wingers that it just won’t work in the middle of nowhere. Rural people have had city fucks stomping on their necks for a couple centuries at this point, so any proposal is seen through that lens. When you couple that with left wing people virulently hate rural people often, and you have a natural pushback.

      Anonymous

      >Why are leftists so fucking ignorant of everything outside of their own hedonistic bubbles
They're not. The intent is to force people to move to cities where they have complete power and control. Gas prices will continue to rise, roads in cities will be replaced with bike and walking paths, electric car infrastructure will be present only in cities. Eventually they'll ban ICE cars. They already have the date set in CA and NY. They will legally force people into their power centers where "you will own nothing, have no privacy, and be happy".

      >only 50 million Americans live in rural areas
Look, while I’m a full supporter of the far-right just like we all are, this line of attack doesn’t work for us. The U.S. has 330 million people, meaning that only 15% live in rural areas. Catering to them is akin to catering to fags and n-words who are about the same percentage each. We need a different approach that highlight that rural residents are a minority. Perhaps some blood and soil rhetoric mixed with Uncle Ted anti-modernization stuff.

        That’s just rural areas

Most cities even east coast cities are car oriented and suburban

The majority of Americans do not live in walkable environments

If you hate that or not it’s irrelevant that’s how it is and it will take decades to change it. Just making gas insane and housing expensive and fucking people over will not fix this it will just impoverish countless millions

Idk why everything has to be divided on hard political left/right lines. I like the idea of walkable neighborhoods. The suburbs of Canada are fucking awful for kids to live in.
    >be 10 year old kid living in suburbs
    >parents don't let you walk to the park because muh kidnappers
    >parents drive you literally everywhere, completely dependent on them
    >can't walk to a corner store, parents are so overprotective they won't let you
    >can't do anything until you have your drivers license
Suburbs make kids protected in their own bubbles, brought everywhere by their moms gigantic tank SUVs. I lived in Montreal for my childhood and I could at the least walk to stores and bike to school myself. In my teen years, when we moved from the city, I couldn't see my friends without 40 minute drives. Suburbs are shit for raising kids in, don't buy into the meme.

We literally did this to someone. My wife was friends with a crunchy vegan couple who used to stay with us in the sticks now and again and shit on it the whole time. Talk shit about my tractor, beat up old pick up, etc. they had to move short notice and asked for our help and we said no. They were only moving like 12 blocks a way, so my wife told them to move their shit on foot. They gave it a shot and got caught carrying their mattress when a downpour hit and ruined it. We laughed at them when they called to complain and they never spoke to us again.

But rather than actually state that simple fact and admit they voted for retards that just bamboozled them, they now have to fall back to "Well actually, we need to completely rebuild society from square one, yes I know that it's not possible but magical thinking is the only thing we're good at and no I will not address the current state of society". What's needed is a better engineered infrastructure not idiots building fences and speedbumps.

I'm not Jesus and I like my pickup truck.

North America isn't Europe. Just accept that. We don't have small towns with small shops. We've got bedroom communities and office blocks.

More importantly, we have very little chance to get by on 30 hour a week jobs so all of these things come together and create a need for roads and transportation.

    1. Public transportation is only economical is highly packed cities. Basically every city besides nyc and maybe Chicago is way to spread out and makes public transportation too expensive. American zoning has really fucked up our cities.

    2. They are generally against using taxes for anything really. Why raise taxes to move workers around? Better to keep taxes low and let people drive to work.

    >France is approximately 551,500 sq km, while United States is approximately 9,833,517 sq km, making United States 1,683% larger than France. Meanwhile, the population of France is ~67.8 million people (264.8 million more people live in United States).

    Gee, I wonder.

As you can see in pic rel, the United States has never experienced the level of human migration that France and the UK has. The United States is 1/4 full compared to Europe and so we generally have to travel long distances to our destinations. Mass-transit is not economically viable outside of places like NYC due to low population density. (Black lines are people migrating to France/UK. Red lines are people migrating to US/Canada)

I'm on the right and I wish that my area of NY was still using the old passenger railway lines that connected my area to more metro areas, as well as other small towns across the country.
Sure, let people have vehicles but cars and trucks should be more for local travel, the interstate highway system was one of the largest missteps in American history.
No amount of adding lanes will fix the core issues that are caused from the ground level. Trains are a much better solution for mass travel, and cars and trucks for local.

Having our local small towns have better walking routes, small passenger train stations, as well as a few roads for cars would be much better.
But the problem is that our entire country's routes are based on highways and cars because of the interstates and the decline of the passenger railway system.

Ok buddy retard, when the train gets to whatever city you're visiting, how do you get around town?

        Anonymous

If towns and cities were designed better, you'd be able to get off the train close enough to where you'd be able to walk where you'd need to go. What I mean by the roads for cars and trucks, I mean like local travel and for deliveries.
Our cities aren't built in any kind of intelligent way. Northeastern cities are typically built with both railroads and walking in mind, but in the last 100 years they've moved more towards cars which have made it more difficult, but newer cities in the west and southwest have been nearly entirely built on the idea of car travel.

Isn't >90% of all car travel people commuting between the suburbs and the city center?
Cars should be for reaching harder to get to places, not for every day driving back and forth over the exact same roads with hundreds of thousands of others who take the exact same route.

Agreed. There should be passenger train lines connecting larger population centers and smaller towns and villages in the rural area.

I can walk to town, would take at least 10 hours 1 way. Walking to the city would take half a week. Or I could just drive to the city in a little over an hour, to town in just a half hour.
