"Why is suffering bad?" is a stupid question.

I've got this question from people questioning my ethics on minimizing suffering.

Suffering is bad because it just is. It's like asking why is it bad for me to torture you. You'd want it to stop.

my subjective desire doesn't represent an objective truth

It's a serious question. Some would argue you have to suffer in order to grow, in that case isnt suffering a good thing?

Not OP, I guess it could be refuted by the idea that not all suffering has meaning to it and that's something we usually just add to it to give it meaning. There also can be different kinds of suffering, physical, emotional, mental for example.
Physical is the most 'objectively' bad since, well, it quite literally feels bad as not only is that what your brain will naturally interpret it, but it can have potential harmful effects that may or may not be long term. It seems to be an entirely subjective question.

Meaning is subjective so you can't make such a statement.

so physical suffering to make gains isn't good? suffering when taking accountability for mistakes or wrongdoings isn't good? suffering through adversity to become more wise and strong isn't good?
undeserved, meaningless, and excessive suffering might be what you mean. which makes me think of you as a child. wise people know that some suffering is beneficial.

Suffering can lead to good things while still being bad. Covid is bad, having more work be online is good. This does not make covid good.

    >Suffering is bad because it just is.
It's not about suffering being bad. You can put any values on your concepts. It completely fine.
The problem is that suffering doesn't exist. Definition implies demarcation. You created suffering yourself by dividing the world into "suffering" and "not-suffering".
There is no reason for me to divide the world the same way you do.
We can atomize the concept of suffering even further. For example, we can talk about pain. Is pain inherently bad? No, it's a defence reaction.

    suffering exists because pleasure exists
you have to have both, otherwise it makes no sense to speak of it
    that's how the universe works
    polarities
in order to not suffer, you must renounce pleasure and exist in a plane of bliss outside of all duality, which is possible through meditation

It’s axiomatically bad, suffering is a type of bad state. The only possible way it’s good is when it’s a means to a better end. If suffering doesn’t lead to something better it is a net bad.
This board and some of philosophy is useless because they can’t even use that as a base and move on to more interesting and practical conversations.

It’s bad not in a moral sense (unless inflicted by others but that’s a whole other thing) but more in a physical and psychological sense people don’t like pain of any kind and will do what they can to avoid it that’s one of the reasons why people abuse drugs and alcohol, avoid hard labor and conflict, and not go to doctors or therapists
