Same as gears for mesa or specint for compilers. It's just a classic and it's open source (meaning you will never be hit by a license claim or some such for using it as a demo). It's also used to demo streaming programs and video hosting for the same reason.

The majority consists of rodents who are faced with a foreign species that is nonetheless in the same clade as themselves, threatening their worldview of their kinship. In order to rationalize their rodent supremacy, they start tormenting the big buck bunny along the lines of other foreign animals to enforce the supposed natural order, but the heroic lagomorph strikes back and takes down the rodent establishment, showing that there is only one race, the Glires race.
