because we didn't have cis male socialization, we had trans girl socialization, which is brutalizing, horrifying, numbing, and entirely distinct

Fpbp. We don't have male socialization so much as we were socialized as males, which when you're not one is very painful and the reason why a lot of us are fricked in the head.

the same ego that lets you believe you're a female also prevents you from seeing you were socialized as a male all along. The most female thing about you lot is an inability to see beyond your own feelings and suffering.

Your experience is obviously not typical. Mosten are only loved on the basis that we provide something in return. Only women and small animals are loved unconditionally. Your experience does not break the rule. Look at the fact that over 95© of FtM transitioners go back because of the sheer isolation and dismissal from society they receive. Whereas only a small amount of MtF transitioners change back. Women live on story mode, while men get the "give me slave for war" difficulty setting.

And meanwhile you hear men, who had had fa more leeway in deciding their gameplay, now b***hing because the level is too hard, all like

You're socially awkward and boys pick on you, you hang out with girls instead because girls don't give you wedgies and noogies, then you go to college and major in CS or something similarly nerdy, and your friends all go into psychology and special education

I haven't noticed that so much
if you find that mtfs don't like it when you talk about them having male socialization, maybe it's a problem with the way you're saying it, not with them accepting it.
makes me think of people who want to talk about toxic masculinity and stuff, but then only really want to use it to attack men.
But also there's a difference between male socialization and "has female friends, bullied for seeming like a gay" male socialization.

      >there's a difference between male socialization and "has female friends, bullied for seeming like a gay" male socialization
I wish I acted gaygier and got bullied so I didn't feel like such a poser. I was one of those "don't make your sexuality your whole identity" types. I thought I was making the smart choice at the time.

Oh, also, I didn't have any female friends because I was a troublemaker in elementary school and all the girls were snitches.

        hons are seen as men.

That is irrelevant, I am not a hon, I look like a twin of my cis sister. Admittedly, if she's a cishon, I'm fricked, but I don't think she is.

Male friends, yeah, but I had no female friends after maybe second grade.

  17. 10 months ago

Because even if there are some things that commonly are taught to men, what 'male socialization' means to a person immediately depends on which exact gender hangups their parents and local culture taught them.

For example, one girl is taught by her mom that a girl should always have good hygeine and thus should never burp. She grows up believing that not burping in front of company is a womanly trait. Meanwhile, another mother might be a fricking skob and that daughter will grow up with an understanding that hygeine and gender arent connected.

By that logic there are a near infinite ways that one can be "male socialized" or "female socialized" to a point that even measuring such things is really just recgonizing trends rather than facts or laws.

Ultimately, I can recognize that being raised make has obviously had some effect on me. My hobbies are generally male dominated hobbies, which is far less likely to happen had I been born female.

And yet, I do not have an identical personality to every male. In fact, people born male have a great diversity of socialization! And the minute details about which gender norms were rigid and which were treated as fluid by my parents growing up obviously had an effect. Not to mention, any weird feelings I had about gender may have made lessons about 'maleness'be kess effective on me.

One can recognize there are trends within each sex that are pushed and reiterated by society, but youd be a fool to treat any experience as a universal male experience or universal female experience and dive into sex essentialism.

I was socialized neutrally when I was a kid, but got socialized as a boy when I was a teenager and then a man in my early 20s. But now I'm in the process of lessening the impact of that masculine socialization by deconstructing it, and learning how to socialize as a woman my age now that I'm full time. I have many women to talk to and learn from, to relate with as I build my feminine socialization

  20. 10 months ago
    Anonymous

Very few MtFs actually experience normal male socialization. Usually MtFs are either effeminate, mildly effeminate+autistic, have BPD, or are raised by a mother with BPD. All of these make normal male socialization near impossible and attempts to socialize them as normal men are extremely traumatic in some fashion. The one thing you can really say is there is an absence of female socialization, but I don't understand why you need to browbeat about someones trauma in order to gain social leverage. Like, no other trauma victims get this sort of response.

oh 100% I was socialized male but to pretend that didn't occur is just silly. I've recently taken notice of inherently femme or masc traits that me or my bf exhibit as t4t but these seem to have been grown from the ground up as we developed as I did spend time around him as a kid. Along with, like, everything mental or emotional: it's learned. Me personally, I switch vocab, flow, and tone around people depending on what seems to work to make friends. Almost purely at work with my fellow AMAB but still. If you want to socialize female just socialize with females 😛

People seem confused about what gender socialisation is
Gender socialisation occurs from the very moment you realise what boys and girls, fathers and mothers are as a child, around 3-4
It's not experiencing socialisation, i.e talking and hanging out with your friends

I was fat, crippled, and sensitive from a young age, so while I did experience male socialization it was like, bad male socialization. Failed male socialization. Masculinity was consistently a metric I failed to live up to and that failure was what defined me in many people's eyes. I was big but not strong, not tough, not manly. I was a living failure, a paper tiger that people were afraid of when they thought I was a threat and disgusted by when they realized I wasn't. So yeah I had male socialization. I'll probably never recover from it, either.
