Why is Elvis the only artist who ever gets any shit for not writing his own songs? No one ever complains about Frank Sinatra never writing his own songs. Whitney Houston didn't, Celine Dion didn't, even modern artists like Rhianna don't. Is it just because Elvis was the biggest so that makes him an easier target? I just never understood the hypocrisy of criticizing someone for something while letting everyone else get a pass.

some people criticize all of them for not writing their songs, except maybe frank sinatra because that was just the norm at the time

      >except maybe frank sinatra because that was just the norm at the time
it was the same in Elvis' era too. The 1950's was when the singer/songwriter type started to take off but it was still more common for artists to perform songs other people wrote. That was the norm for the entirety of the first half of the 20th century.

Because Elvis is rock and that's a rockist standard that developed after rock separated from pop, so people retroactively apply that standard to Elvis even though it's stupid to do so.

It's because Elvis was recontextualized as "punk" combined with general rockist ignorance of the music industry and practices of non-rock musics.

The guy had like 5 Rock songs

Elvis and Eminem are proof that no matter how much black ass you kiss and no matter how many black people you help, you're still going to be demonized, so don't bother

I thought black people as a whole accept Eminem as the GOAT nowadays or at least that's what I see these kids on youtube say

Definitely not. He gets loads of hate from them, which is partly understandable because he hasn't dropped a good album in twenty years, but neither has Nas and he doesn't get a hundredth of the hate so I reckon the Eminem hate is racially motivated.

That's just a blatant lie. His last 3 albums are incredible.
