Why is Dresden never taught in American schools?

This is an account from a British soldier opening an air raid shelter in Dresden that had become an oven

>Slowly the horror inside became visible. There were no real complete bodies, only bones and scorched articles of clothing matted together on the floor and stuck together by a sort of jelly substance. There was no flesh visible, what had once been a congregation of people sheltering from the horror above them was now a glutinous mass of solidified fat and bones swimming around, inches thick, on the floor.

It is, you fricking moron. Reading Slaughterhouse Five is about as normie tier as reading Animal Farm or Catcher in the Rye, every fricking 15 year old reads it and thinks they've uncovered some secret knowledge lmao

        >banned books from schools
Reddit hysteria about "the Christo-Fascists doing another Holocaust!!!" These books are all freely available online, in public libraries, on Amazon, and yes also in most public schools.
Discovering that German cities were firebombed in WW2 isn't a major revelation, my grandpa (was a teenager in 1944-45) used to watch news reels of the devastation at the local cinema and everyone in the crowd would clap and cheer when they saw German cities in ruins kek

pretty sure schools don't even go over UK domestic bombings anymore. The total war aspect of WWII has been completely removed

            Incorrect. We learned in school.

My roommate is a teacher and had the kids plot bomber missions to destroy German industry in the WWII section of his class, randomly losing bombers to AA fire and interceptors, and seeing who could devastate the Nazi war machine best.

Not in the US. The entirety of WWII is vocabulary and remembering flashcard multiple choice "what happened in this year, was it A) Hitler fricked a dog B) FDR Fricked a dog C)..."

Kek. I don't see how this really adds to the learning, but it definitely sounds like a fun experience. In my school we just had a mock Nuremberg Trials thing going, I'm surprised they allowed some of us to actually defend the Nazis from a legalistic standpoint.

The fricking Blitz is the only damn thing they did talk about at our school (Prep 4 or so, back in 2009 for me).

what if their goal all along was to kill as many commies as possible

Forgot to add, the whole reason why you're probably b***hing about Dresden is exactly because everyone reads Slaughterhouse Five. Nobody b***hes about the far worse bombing of Hamburg or the Rhineland because they don't have millions of teenagers being forced to read Kurt Vonnegut's personal soapbox on the matter

A lot of the shit people screech about not being taught in American schools are in some capacity or are at least mentioned in the textbooks nobody reads. People just don't give a shit and don't bother studying it, then it becomes some pop history thing and they start complaining waahh they didn't teach us about this.

You're encouraged not to read textbooks in school because the large sections like WWII can't be completed and all the civic bullshit they want to cram into your head. So they streamline the major sections with powerpoints only occasionally reading a page or two out of textbooks to make sure we inhale all the federally mandated vocabulary

      /Thread
People either dont pay attention in class, or they just straight up can't be bothered to read books (online or physical) and then they blame "The establishment" for suppressing information, as opposed to admitting they're just lazy.
The CIA will literally admit to looney toons tier debauchery like Operation Midnight Climax, there is no censored information about WW2 left in the USA, we pretty much know everything there is to know by now.
Only big secret revealed would be if the Brits did assassinate Polish leaders in faked airplane crashes or something of that sort

Because it's irrelevant to American history?

Hiroshima and Nagasaki were the intro to the Cold War

The Holocaust fed into the Arab-Israeli conflict

    What does Dresden teach us?
