but you are overpaying. remember op is shilling the get shit done crowd, the get shit done crowd shouldn't be ricing their pc or paying 5000 dollars for a house fire.
macOS is a little microcosm of various early computer memes. UNIX and BSD, but also personal computer history (being Apple and all).
But sometimes I think they should have stuck with Intel. It's integral to the legacy aesthetic and enabled macs to practically run anything. ARM is a relative newcomer.
schizo about what? It's the marriage of UNIX and Macintosh. Two entirely different worlds once upon a time. This is just a basic fact. Not sure what more you're reading into it.
>sometimes I think they should have stuck with Intel
do you think we'd get a lot of advantages for that?
I think it's nice we finally have performant ARM computers for desktops/laptops. Compatibility is pretty good and Rosetta does an okay job with X86 software.
>Not for the games I care for.
and these don't run through Rosetta, Wine or whatever?
depending on how old we're talking, even a VM should do ok.

If they had Intel ports, many of those run fine. And there's quite a few. You can still get some classics like BG1 and 2. But you don't have the option of bootcamp or x86 Parallels and actually run straight up Windows binaries.
>But sometimes I think they should have stuck with Intel
There are a million valid criticisms of Apple and you literally pick the one and only good thing they've done recently. -17 IQ take
>(if your time is free)
I'd rather pay nothing to waste my time than pay for windows to waste my time with its bullshit, or pay the mac premium to pay $20 for third party shit to add basic functionality or have to suffer under its retarded workflow, all to have the laptop melt in just 1 year. >t. Pirated Windows
At least you did not pay for it but windows is a pile of flaming shit now. 7 should not have been taken for granted.
>No advantage to Linux
For modern systems this is probably true, but I've noticed that for older systems the more cut down and refined kernel of UNIX seems to perform a lot better to the Linux, even for something as cut down a a Gentoo install.
1. No repos. Both brew and ports had some breaking problems
2. Sucks with multiple monitors. Disappearing or not working bars, incorrect color temperature, different time of day on live wallpapers
3. Needs weird console buttfucking instead of having proper settings. Try making holding a button repeat a symbol
4. Filebrowser is shit that doesn't even have "up" button
5. Installing keyboard daemon requires booting into safe mod and disabling some security measures
6. Installers are terrible and leave shit behind. Kensington driver (which didn't work, by the way), left dot folders after uninstall
7. WM is the worst in the world. No snapping, no tiling, some windows have retarded "minimal size", most don't properly full screen
It's ONLY good if your ideal use case is a pile of shit where you can change what piece of shit is at the top of the shit stack with gestures. Then it's great.
>2. Sucks with multiple monitors. Disappearing or not working bars, incorrect color temperature, different time of day on live wallpapers
You also can't disable a monitor without physically disconnecting it. This is a very useful feature if you happen to use multiple computers at one desk.
I spent years on gentoo and then finally got a mac in 2017, and the process was mostly seamless. Only things that bugged me were lack of window snapping/tiling that basically every Linux DE has had for decades, and that a lot of software isn't available to download outside of the gay "app store." Otherwise not much difference in how I do my work.
The m1 pro is a cheap laptop with an arguably good screen and battery.
Conectivity is trash and the performance is abysmal when multitasking.
MacOS is a joke OS for serious work, Cmd+tab is broken, maximizing windows is retarded, no real use for the dock, just a waste of space.
I have a M2 Macbook Pro and I will be completely honest with you: I fucking HATE Mac. It is less bad than Windows, yes, but I have experienced more bugs in Mac than I have on Windows or Linux combined.
That's not a joke.
Still use it, because my company sent it for me.
If it were a rolling release and had a minimal install option (for Apple standards that would be the whole DE without the preloaded apps) it would be able to compete against Linux distros.
Be honest. What's the point of unix for the consumer? The majority of people dont give a shit if their OS is unix or what. They just use whatever. Whne apple first switched over to unix. I was like ok, but why would I care?
Because I am not basedboy consoomer that buys the latest and greatest devices every day because my old devices get throttled by Crapple.
Ill use whatever I want, whenever I want, however I want. Fuck you
That's a lot of words just to say nothing.
honestly dont see why people who like mac wont just make a hackintosh. whats the downside?
The best part about mac is the hardware.

I know, that's why I have a pc and not a mac. But to say mac hardware isn't nice would be lying.
>basedboy
is the filter still on?
Buy an ad next time, Rajeet.
I do use hackintosh occasionally, buying apple hardware is retarded though
>he uses the cringe FreeBSD instead of the based OpenBSD
i knew you weren't a real puffa
getting creative with the undercover apple marketing i see
I'm on a Mac right now.
I'm not a poor, angry virgin.
I do
holy mother of based
>QEMU
what's the problem with QEMU?
>not certified
Into the trash it goes.
Oh sorry let me just switch to HP-SUX for my daily driver
Nothing about slowlaris is based.
Nice joke where'd you get it Bell Labs
Got it from reality you troon. If you've ever used slowlaris, you'd know why it has that name.
>troon
obsessed
Not obsessed, just spitting facts.
I am not a youtuber or a photofag therefore I have no use for a Mac

>do you think we'd get a lot of advantages for that?
eh, I'd just be able to run more games without turning on a windows machine.
wouldn't you need a beefy GPU for that anyway?
Not for the games I care for. Almost everything after 2012 sucks.... for some reason.
Stop playing games you manchild.
Mind your own business, granny.
Stop wasting time on LULZ you manchild.

I'm on my second ARM machine. You're preaching to the choir. But there's obvious tradeoffs. There always is.
>Why haven't you upgraded to real UNIX yet instead of using a knock off every day?
Because it isn't 1970 anymore and computing has improved a lot. Linux users hate this.
Because I use Solaris
Why is it important that my OS is "real unix"?
It's like the Catholic Church vs those sedevacantists with fake popes.
>It's like the Novus Ordo sect with fake popes vs those sedevacantists without popes
FTFY
So does that make linux users prots? Linus would make a great Luther and Stallman is autistic enough to be Calvin.
>Linus would make a great Luther and Stallman is autistic enough to be Calvin.
Are you trying to keep me from using Linux even more?
Try this out... Debian is the JW of Linux due to how much they shill their distro.
not FOSS
My mac got 3 times faster after i installed linux on it, and a lot less bitchy as well.
> case-insensitive

Because macOS sucks. I returned laptop to my employer because of how shitty it was.
>macOS sucks
LOL, this. At least "Linux" is free.
>"Linux" is free.

t. Pirated Windows & BSD user
How exactly does Linux waste your time and BSD doesn't?
It has literally no real advantage to linux.

i like it quite a bit other than its lack of tiling in the wm and retarded file browser, what did you dislike about it?

Oh, yeah, terrible fucking font rendering on non high-ppi screens. Have 27" 1440p? Hope you enjoy staying at fuzzy fatass fonts.
>2. Sucks with multiple monitors. Disappearing or not working bars, incorrect color temperature, different time of day on live wallpapers

Because I want to use the OS to use relevant software and not occupy myself with constantly fixing my operating system.
>needs certification from literally who to feel meaningful
Pure itoddler mentality lmao

proud to be a cuck to some committee?
The biggest attempt at glory for unix nowadays is that Linux mentions it as inspiration, its literally dead and abandoned
cope
pipe down, undead
Becoze GNU's Not Unix sirs, and it is better and more powerful. The Linux kernel was inspired by Minix

I've had an m1 max 14" MacBook pro for 2 years

If you could easily install it on normal computers and it didn't require internet to install, it would overtake windows in a year.
i have
that's not gentoo
I did, years ago. Then I upgraded again when Apple downgraded it
Be honest. What's the point of unix for the consumer? The majority of people dont give a shit if their OS is unix or what. They just use whatever. Whne apple first switched over to unix. I was like ok, but why would I care?
Standardized tools and functionality regardless of which platform you choose
Linux gets way more development action than MacOS.
There is no OG UNIX.
It's all an knock off
t/ retard
>Muh proffesional real unix
>One package manager called homebrew maintained by some rando
Question: what is the best package manager on mac? I currently use brew but know that there's nix and macports.
macOS is a horrible system where you can't change shit. It's not meant for work.
>changing the system instead of doing work
Linux perspective
Ew it looks like a chink's bad interpretation of Ubuntu.
What distro? I'll bet it's got a chink name like wing flung dung xiu
