Why has UI become so utterly shitty nowadays, everything is so gayish, roundish and colorful, it takes frick ton of resources and works terrible while trying to render gazillion animations.
Why simple, based UI is not a thing anymore?

The people building/designing it are autistic morons or think it is for autistic morons. They do not care what anyone thinks, they are ``artists''.

      100% designers fault.
Designers are morons that don't know how to use a computer that build UI aimed for equally moronic people.

The thing that annoys me is how spaced out everything is on the screen, like the paddings and margins etc are all too big. Could fit way more stuff on the screen without all the spacing

Got to make it """"touch friendly""""

This irks me too, especially on desktop sites. There is usually a ton of unused screen real estate.
I guess mobile first is to blame for it, lord knows i've been guilty of doing it myself too.

this looks like shit, but there are good UI designs out there nowadays
the arc.net app is one of my favorites
I really disliked the skeuomorphic design on android/iOS back then, material design, iOS 7, Windows 8 and windows 10 felt incomplete, windows 10 was doing some nice progress till 11 came around.
Now everything is too touch friendly.
Let's go back to Windows 95, XP or 7's UI. The icons looked way more comfy and the design languages were pretty clear. MacOS looks good nowadays, looked good on osx and even before.
Ffs let's go back to phones that can text and that's it, maybe order food or navigate with google maps too, and that's it, just useful stuff, not this bloated spyware shit we have nowadays

forgot to add the last thing - the point of this is frick smartphones, they ruined design by making everything big and touch friendly

windows 10 was the peak ui. minimalistic, functional, fast to render

Disagreed, windows 10 was so inconsistent, slow and it had so many issues at the beginning. Then they started upgrading it to Fluent design, which would finally make it 1000x more usable and beautiful. They were doing great, the updates were exciting, and just when we were about to hear the news about the Sun Valley update for 10 (which was going to be a huge upgrade and it was going to make 10 a lot more consistent) just happened to be 11, which is still shit and too touch friendly
At this rate I'll buy a macbook, it should just werk

        >windows 10 was the peak ui
it had the most inconsistent UI of any windows version

        >windows 10 was the peak ui
        based moron
windows 10 is probably the ugliest Black person frankenstein of windows UIs ever made, at least they tried to fix it a bit in 11

What was wrong with checkboxes again?

      checkboxes are for multiselect
what you want is on/off radio buttons but I guess that's too much space to use up on a phone

UI design is expensive and with flatshit you can just task pajeet that is already writing the underlying code to also design ui. It's great for profit margins.
Just look at old icon designs, it probably took hours for talented designer to make just one, now you put colorful triangle and circle and you're done.

    >it takes frick ton of resources and works terrible while trying to render gazillion animations.
It's the fun part of modern flatshit, they are struggling rendering basic 2d geometrics and shadows on screen while old software did more, better and on less hardware
