It's far too complex to actually explain in a LULZ thread - but all of British politics and legislation (even today) is rooted in the monarchy and the church of England (state religion).
Read the history of England and you'll realise the UK was mainly comprised of large manors that were divided into fields with a small village and a church maintaining psychological control over the serfs.
Only when the population became too large to control, quite recently, did they make up democracy and create the illusion that people died for their rights.
