      We do, basically.

it was not centralized, that we know of, but there could well be a specific tribe that was very powerful, similar to a "royal tribe", but this is mere speculation on my part. The Celts were very "Champion-centric" so an epic warrior/chief could have "international" fame that could lead to him being able to move territories freely with no harm or threat.

Scythians for example had a Royal Tribe, that held the Royal Treasure and could rule over any tribe. It was also the biggest and most fierce tribe of them all, and did not had non scythians not even as slaves.

I don't know if Celts had something like this, but something tells me some tribes or certain people could be near legendary in life due to war/raiding accompishments.

Any books on the celtic thing? this champion centric tribal warfare sounds very interesting

        >this champion centric tribal warfare sounds very interesting
I made it up :^), based on actual duels they had for the right to the hero portion at banquets, they used to duel for it, some times resulting in death, Warriors were so venerated that the feast wouldn't start until the hero portion wasn't decided

There's a blog somewhere with Celtic artifacts, it's a nice browsing.
But it's sad that we know next to nothing about Druids for example.

Their 'tism will be sorely missed. There really isn't a complete druidic equivalent in our Greco-Roman and Germanic written sources. This speaks to the importance of maintaining a literary tradition.

            Anonymous

Celts in Ibera did write, but there's still no writen record of Druidic practices. Something tells me it's not that nobody wrote it down, but either somebody (romans/christians) was trying to erase it from history or someone (druids) didn't want anyone else having access to it

            Idk, who knows.

I wonder, did they write in Latin or have some kind of equivalent to the Nords with their own set of runic inscriptions, or maybe they could have taken up Gothic? Recently it seems at least one Slavic tribe began using Norse runes as their own alphabet but it was only one or two artifacts iirc. If they wrote in Latin, it would explain why so little survived.

Iirc it was derived directly from phoenician script. Here's a pic.

to the point where one plaque was written in phoenician and the others in celtiberian.
The writings are about a land dispute, farmer shit iirc.

That's very interesting. To my understanding Carthage would often hire Celtic/Iberian mercs as shock troops and they were great fighters. Phoenicians had a really fricked up culture but Celts must have admired them for their wealth.

Phoenicians had colonies in southern Iberia. But I've never heard of Phoenicians hiring Celtic mercenaries. I've heard about Egyptians hiring them though.

They would hire mercenaries from all over the Mediterranean, Atlantic and even literal nigs if they could. Embarrassing really but that was their system. I'll try to find a sauce for you.

I think he’s referring to Carthage. Carthage used mercs from all over, Berbers/Numidians, Ibero-Celts, Sicilians, Greeks, and they even used Gauls as cannon fodder at a point kek. Their over reliance on foreign mercs is actually one of the contributing factors to their collapse.

Yeah I meant Punic """armies""" my mistake.

The brits are pretty close to mainland Germanics. There is some areas with Norse influence, but England is pretty Germanic. Also, the French were the conquers, south France larps as the top half who sometimes larp as Romans.

This map is moronic. There was never a full scale migration of Celts from the mainland to the isles. The isles were beakers that boated over from Holland, and they plot next to germanics more than most of "Germanic" Europe does

Why did the Galatians choose to settle the Anatolian interior rather than a coastline that would facilitate easier trade and another source of sustenance?

      Anonymous

I've read somewhere that they settled there after successfully raiding greece, but being defeated at a specific Greek temple. No idea bout the coastline stuff. But I imagine the coast had high greek traders trafic.

Central Anatolian was rather empty, and full of easily defensive hills to build your fortified villages. Good place for a warlike people not liked by their neighboroods

What was the Celtic Empire's flag? If they don't have a flag they're not an empire.
