Because the money goes straight to jimmie wales' pocket (that's what "non-profit" means, as opposed to "for-profit" businesses where the money has to go back to the business).

I'm colorblind and can only see like, 5 colors besides black and white. What the hell does this mean?

        Anonymous

The colors don't matter they just tell you that the numbers go up every year
The takeaway is that the largest expense is salaries
        Followed by awards and grants
Hosting the actual website is 8th on the list
Hardly any of the money they accrue goes towards the website

would hosting really be so little though? i dont imagine it would be shit tons but more than a few thousand

very little. wikipedia can probably run on a $50/month aws setup, with a cdn and everything.

i'll be honest, i thought i saw a comma and a decimal there, and assumed it was monthly and the salaries were averages or something

                Anonymous

When i take the costs of my own projects and extrapolate it to the size of wikipedia, i would land somewhere around those 2.7 million yearly.
You have to consider that wikipedia is easy to cache, it's not like social media platform where every user always sees his individual feeds.

                Anonymous

Feeds are just interpolation of highly cached contents though.

                Anonymous

Wikipedia is absurdly easy to cache. Without manual cache invalidation, I'd say you could have a TTL of at least 24 hours and barely degrade the service. With manual invalidation, the whole thing could be cached indefinitely

Hosting for text and pictures is dirt cheap.
It only gets somewhat expensive when you're serving video or large downloads.

lmao. you wish it was, commie chink. it's biggest problems are retards that sit on pages like they own them, not the site. when you are smart you can edit whatever you like. problem with chinks, poltard pedophiles and associated human filth is that they're so poorly educated that they can't even edit a wiki page without being outed as a brainwashed communist.

      >Black Cultural Archives, United Kingdom: Black Cultural Archives is a Black-led archive and heritage center that preserves and gives access to the histories of African and Caribbean people in the UK. They are the recipients of a one-year $290,000 USD grant. Their goals with this grant for the coming year include increasing research into their collections, as well as increasing the breadth of their collections for research. Another aim is to play a leading role in supporting a network of archive organizations that champion Black British history, and finally, they hope to develop programmatic work that provides access to their less traditional archive material; VHS tapes and cassettes that contain a large amount of information on Black British cultural history. This grant will be an important step in continuing to support archival work and increasing access to historical records.

Just a reminder that Wikipedia's parent company owns Fandom - aka all the pop culture wiki's, who were forcibly removed during editor wars a decade ago from Wikipedia and then brought back slowly over time - which is so infested with ads that it is unusable without adblock.

I hate the cross is le Christianity meme
Israel are Abraham's seed and God's chosen people. The tribes were scattered and effectively integrated themselves in most major cultures, and even then gentiles can still be adopted into that great family.
There can be no symbol that represents Israel other than a depiction of Christ himself.
