Blue collar pay makes one go homeless. At least that is the case here in Singapore.
We have regulatory cartels here in the west that make blue collar work as lucrative as being a medical doctor or lawyer, but the same system that gates the flow of $500,000 per year towards 2 fat retarded boomer plumbers per town, also makes it a really annoying process for young people to get involved.

kek. when i was younger i briefly looked into trades but got turned off by the insane 4-5 year apprenticeship period. trades are challenging but does it REALLY take 8-10k hours of instruction and practice to learn the baseline skills necessary to wire up a building with electrical service, or fit together pvc/iron piping to get toilets that flush? are you REALLY telling me that the time requirement is identical to what a hypothetical college student spends learning calculus, linear algebra, differential equations, physics, and upper level engineering courses?
Because blue collar jobs are stressful and makes your health shit over time, in a generation that wants to be forever young and retarded without kids, with high suicidal rates, full of envy for the rich, without any sort of legacy this is equal to a death penalty.

I have a college degree and make about $30/hr at a factory as a machine operator. I have to work about 60 hrs/wk to make over 100k/yr. The job is stressful, and my coworkers are all tobacco chewing redneck assholes or felons. The work itself is dangerous, loud, and ultimately bad for my lungs in the long term. If I get promoted to management, I can make more money and have less dangerous work, but I'd still have to work 12+ hrs/day.
If I could make $150k/yr to sit at home on my ass, I would do it in a heartbeat.
when i worked in a factory like 2/3 of the boomer team leaders were alcoholics. one had a face that was permanently beet red. the other would drink beers in the parking lot after his shift ended, and then drunk drive home. 3/3 of them were miserable assholes.
Yeah, we don't really have "team leads". It's a union job, so the pay and benefits are actually really good. My degree is liberal arts, so I honestly wouldn't be making more money if I had an office job. Getting into management at some kind of job was always what I had in mind unless I decide to go back to school for PhD. I honestly don't mind the work much, and kinda like being paid hourly because I can grind like a motherfucker while I'm young to make bank. The reason I stay is because:

if you have a slightly below average IQ you can make money far easier in white collar jobs than in blue collar jobs. blue collar jobs force you to adhere to retarded boomer-controlled hierarchies that usually revolve around seniority. you can't really "job hop" for title increases because title hierarchy doesn't exist, only boomer seniority hierarchies.
i studied accounting in college. i went from $57k to $95k in 3.5 years. today i have 5 years of experience, and i'm now interviewing for jobs that pay $120k at the low end and $150k at the high end.

at the factory maybe i could have broken into industrial maintenance or electrical maintenance, after racking up another 2-3 years of seniority to bid on the electrical/maintenance jobs. the factory was in a rural area and i live in a suburban area. but if you want a true 1:1 comparison, you can maybe make $40-45/hour as a maintenance/electrical guy in my suburban surroundings. $80-90k top end pay... but you're working rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, etc. unless you have enough seniority to move onto straight days.
