Why do pseuds love russian lit so much?

Tolsoty and Dostoevsky are not even close to Dickens, Dante, Melville...NOT EVEN CLOSE!

Well I’d say Tolstoy and Dostoevsky are both equal or surpassing Dickens. Dante and Melville are in the company of maybe four… five… six writers ever

Russian literature stems from beauty looking down on cultural decadence and degeneracy; while English literature was regularly prized and valued as an art form, the israelites were trying to ruin Russia.

      >Dostoevsky
      >beauty
Dostoevsky's prose is blatantly ugly, duh.

I like how all Russian literature is basically about criminals
Very telling about the Russian mentality

Idk that pseuds love Russians in general but pseuds sure as hell love Dostoevsky, there was a time when he was the favourite author of every late teen boy who had read almost nothing, and only read dosto in translation. However, pseuds enjoying something doesn’t mean that it’s necessarily bad, most of the things which pseuds like are good, they just can’t articulate why
I haven’t actually read either of them and I don’t plan on learning Russian ever so I’ll probably never read them in a way that makes a fair comparison.
    >Dickens
Come on man theyre probably at least comparable, Dickens is great but he’s not the best ever
    >Dante, Melville
Most of Melville’s books are only pretty good, he is (like Dante) famous for one supremely beautiful work of art that I might be willing to describe as divinely inspired, it’s not a fair comparison.
Though I’d say his short stories, Pierre, and Clarel prove that Moby-Dick wasn’t a fluke, it’s not like Melville produced nothing but perfection. I’d wager that if you take the modal average of quality amongst all their novels, Tolstoy and Dostoevsky come out in front of Melville, he just has a higher peak.

Russian literature is just glorified coping/seething about Western European superiority. You could argue that the Soviet Union was the same, too.

    >russian
but is is so diverse. Pseuds surely like Dostoevsky and Bulgakov, but theres nothing pseud about Chekhov and Turgenev.
I like Dostoyevsky not because of "muh christianity" but because his characters have literally me traits

ur a woman then, seeking fictional characters out as a surrogate for lack of an identity.

Tolstoy and Dostoy are the gatekeepers of literature. They filter the masses. If you cannot make it through Anna Karenina, nor BK; it's over.
