Carpenters then as now were working slobs, one step above construction workers. At best they were petty bourgeoisie, but more likely lower-middle class
Dude you can’t apply terms like “petty bourgeious” to fricking ancient Jerusalem lmfao
Pseud fail
he was middle class
The poor of the gospel are widows, orphans, and those disabled by diseases who have to work as beggars, and depend on the charity of others. Not workers.
Carpenters aren't middle class they're working class, especially if they work for someone else like Jesus did.
Bro, just don't take mythology too serious.
m8 this is back in a time when everyone used wood for just about everything carpenters would of been plentiful and more then likely lower middle class
They had concrete and bricks back then for major construction projects
> he thinks there was such a thing as a carpenter school
You would learn the skills from your father or mentor
people use wood for everything now anon, no go make me a fricking table
That's a rather Germanic looking Jesus...
Middle east was white back then, moron
How did it stop being white?
WE WUZ israeliteS AN SHIEEET
Do white people really?
I'll do you better OP: Jesus Christ was not a carpenter. "Carpenter" is a muddled Latin->Modern Language translation of the original Koine Greek word "Tekton." Tekton means "craftsman" so basically Jesus was an artisan/skilled laborer of some sort. Carpenter, Mason, Blacksmith, he could've been anything.
SO yeah as an artisan that would make him the equivalent of a Judean middle-class bloke.
It means Wright
It doesn't say Jesus was a tekton it says Joseph was a tekton.
And children typically followed their father's work so Jesus was probably also a craftsman
christ was a craftsman and rabbi, educated and with means
>carpenter which was high paying
Source?
>Why do people
kys
>middle class
carpenters were not middle class, they were among the wealthier working class but nowhere near the middle class proper such as a merchant or a lawyer
https://thehistoryofengland.co.uk/resource/medieval-prices-and-wages/
In 1300 a carpenter was paid 53 shillings while a laborer was paid 40, only 32.5% more.
How were they paid in Roman Judea, though?
all you idiots arguing about the application of modern class structure to the ancient world are something else
How do you think he ate?
begging and gifts from followers probably, that's how most traveling preacher types have done it over the years
So just like today's streamers.
>do people think jesus had a day job making chairs?
they do
He literally did have a job as a carpenter where presumably he would have made chairs. He didn't start his ministry until he was 30 years old. Do you reckon the Lord made good quality furniture?
