Carpenters then as now were working slobs, one step above construction workers. At best they were petty bourgeoisie, but more likely lower-middle class

    he was middle class

The poor of the gospel are widows, orphans, and those disabled by diseases who have to work as beggars, and depend on the charity of others. Not workers.

Carpenters aren't middle class they're working class, especially if they work for someone else like Jesus did.

I'll do you better OP: Jesus Christ was not a carpenter. "Carpenter" is a muddled Latin->Modern Language translation of the original Koine Greek word "Tekton." Tekton means "craftsman" so basically Jesus was an artisan/skilled laborer of some sort. Carpenter, Mason, Blacksmith, he could've been anything.

SO yeah as an artisan that would make him the equivalent of a Judean middle-class bloke.

It doesn't say Jesus was a tekton it says Joseph was a tekton.

And children typically followed their father's work so Jesus was probably also a craftsman

    >middle class
carpenters were not middle class, they were among the wealthier working class but nowhere near the middle class proper such as a merchant or a lawyer

    https://thehistoryofengland.co.uk/resource/medieval-prices-and-wages/

In 1300 a carpenter was paid 53 shillings while a laborer was paid 40, only 32.5% more.

He literally did have a job as a carpenter where presumably he would have made chairs. He didn't start his ministry until he was 30 years old. Do you reckon the Lord made good quality furniture?
