Why do modern Mosques only follow two styles? I know it's because of Saudi/Turkish funding but why not use local architecture? Mosque designs throughout Islamic history always followed local design elements.

Because they are funded by the same people
Because Islam encourages cultural conformity. Mimicking non-Muslims is discouraged
No?
Yes. Behaving like non-Muslims is haram. That includes dress, custom, and tradition.
read early works on jurisprudence, you'd be surprised
20th century spread of Wahabism and other extremist sect that encourages Arabisation
Islam is an Arab supremacist religion
They're ashamed of not being Arab or Persian
Persians, Turks, and Berbers hate Arabs
You may be surprised to discover that building a genuine place of worship requires very high level knowledge of traditional architecture and sacred geometry and symbolism. The type of specialists necessary to adapt sacred symbology and geometry to local styles are basically extinct today, which is why so many new places of worship look like Amazon warehouses and shit. Modern builders can copy old stuff but they can't really innovate.
>sacred symbology and geometry
That’s not Islamic
Ok bro, as you say.
This is the first mosque build by prophet Muhammad PBUH himself. Now tell me where’s all that required sacred symbology and geometry?
Are you sure that's a mosque anon? It looks like a toy model someone has made.
>What is this, a mosque for ants, inshallah?!
Apparently so.
Look bro I am not gonna dig into the history of this toy model. Let's say that it is the first mosque ever and that it is made by the Prophet. What is that meant to prove? That mosques can only look like short, flat stables, and everything else is un-Islamic? Christians originally also gathered in public yet in the middle ages there were strict architectural and geometric conventions that were to be obeyed in the construction of a sacred place.
The point is the symbology and geometry are not obligatory
If necessity requires that you dispense with them, no, they are not necessary. However, if you recall my first post, my point was not that without specific forms of architecture it is impossible to do proper worship. My point was that without advanced levels of traditional knowledge of geometry and architecture, it is impossible to adapt local styles and create new religious buildings in those styles. Instead, the best you will be able to do is build those office-like or warehouse-like buildings, which is indeed what is being done when MENA designs are not being recycled.
