But if you measure among the 2,000,000 people who have died each year in the United States, musicians appear to be only slightly more likely to have committed suicide. The percentage of suicides among those who have died is 1.5 percent. The number for musicians is 2.1 percent.

      They literally do anon

the reasoning here is so brain damaged...
it's not unfair to say that there's a correlation between creativity and mental illness. it's not a requirement, but people who are bipolar or ADHD or whatever are frequently more creative. and this also correlates with increased suicide risk.
but you can't infer that higher suicide risk means better music. if your brain is sufficiently fucked up, you're not going to be accomplishing much of anything.

you need to suffer to make good art, genuine art doesnt come from a good place

        this is the dumbest cliche

maybe people who suffer are more likely to make art such as music as an outlet?

      Makes sense
They can't replace him, Trevor's vocals were too good but I wonder if they'll choose a new lead vocalist .

Trevor going really shook me, man

It wasn't really out of nowhere for him though, he was speaking out for years about how he was going through suicidal cycles and how covid disruptions were making it all much worse

Brian, the main songwriter and live backing vocalist, took over lead vocals and their old guitarist came back to switch off lead and rhythm with the current lead guy. They're touring and writing with that configuration now

I think some people think they are ready for fame and have this image in their heads of what it is. Then they experience it and it's far too much for them to handle. Especially since being artists they are probably more introverted. They want to do their art either on stage or in a studio and then be left alone.

Touring. You miss your family, friends, home, and it can tear apart marriages. So that lifestyle probably doesn't help things.

Creative people tend to be more sensitive. Each negative criticism and review can eat away at the ego and more. In a constant state of not wanting that to happen. Trying to always do better each album. It's a lot of pressure.

I don't think they understand some kind of truth. They are just incredibly human like the rest of us, put in a very unnatural situation.

Touring always seemed cancer to me. Surely musicians don't HAVE to do it, right? Do they sign a contract with their record label that forces them to tour or something?

Touring is where the artist is going to get the chunk of their money.
Any chart/radio success profit is going to the record label but also serves as promoting your live shows.

      >it can tear apart marriages
no it can't. cheating does. writing letters or writing special songs or video calling or ordering pizza or takeout for someone states away is what couples would do if they wanted to stay together

Musicians are much more sensitive not in a cowardly way but they just feel too much. Reality is just so much It’s overwhelming and making music/art is the only thing to take their mind off
