The Book of Job makes a lot more sense when you find out it was written like satirical comedy not meant to be taken serious.

Christianity was a good idea for people to have back when life completely sucked and there was no way of improving your situation. Nowadays it's just irrelevant

Christianity was just a way to fill the void that the pantheon didn't want to touch. Jesus is the god of poverty

Yeah he did advocate for social reform which did help inspire some good but mostly he's just been a way to justify oppressing people and soothing there suffering from lack of freedom

    >Can you lift up your voice to the clouds, so that a flood of waters may cover you? Can you send forth lightnings, so that they may go and say to you, “Here we are”? Who has put wisdom in the inward parts, or given understanding to the mind? Who has the wisdom to number the clouds? Or who can tilt the waterskins of the heavens, when the dust runs into a mass and the clods cling together?

Honestly the book of job reads like some dark satire on Christian thought as a whole. It really makes the whole idea of the judeo-christian god seem fucking ridiculous

The book of job is the same story as Harvey dent in the dark knight. They both suffer for no reason at the hands of an evil madman and at the end there punished for not accepting it.

Job has to make sacrifices for his adult children, i.e.
    >they are unfaithful
    Job's wife says
    >curse God and die

Job, after all his ordeal; gets a better family.
None of you actually have a family. Let alone got stuck with an evil family.
If you're crackwhore wife and crackbabies all died you'd be sad; but if you got the better deal in the end, you got the better deal.
    inb4
    >oohhh HOW COULD YOU???
Go through some manmade hardship for a while, and you'll see that rarely there's a light at the end of the tunnel. At least God's trials have a reward.

I think you are the perfect representation of a Christian. Extremely vile, disgusting, and low IQ, just like the savior you worship.

this story is a warning, If god didn't punish him someone else would take advantage of him

The main part of the Book of Job is that his friends keep assuming he must have done something wrong to be punished, when the truth is the opposite. It's a story of bad things happening to a good person to drill in the idea that bad things can happen to people who did nothing wrong, and that it's presumptuous and arrogant to assume otherwise.

What's with all the atheist threads attacking Christianity? Shouldn't you be preaching the virtues of atheism?

They don't even understand that the Book of Job is literally about not presuming to know the will of God, and thus not blaming someone for the bad things that happen to them because God might be doing it for literally the opposite reason that they might think.

It's kinda funny to me that people don't fucking bother to read the think, or lack the basic reading comprehension necessary to grasp such a simple concept as "don't be a presumptuous prick to people down on their luck".

    >Job: God! Why am I suffering? Explain yourself
    >God: Look at all this cool stuff you'll never understand. Do you really think if I told you that you would understand?
    >Job: Oh I guess not. Thanks.

    >Atheist get filtered by this

      >Satan: Job only loves you because you give him stuff.
      >God: Nuh uh, I bet if I torture him and kill his family, we won't love me no more. You can even help me do it.
      >*Tortures him and kills his whole family*
      >God: See, Job still simps for me. I win.
