Because plantation owners had to be a bunch of Black folk and try to game the system. Even from a far right perspective slavery was one of the biggest frick ups in Americas history.

At that point in time it was way cheaper to have slaves than it was to pay for free labor.

It's almost always cheaper to have slaves.

Originally we farmed things like rice and tobacco. Not enough white people immigrated to keep up the necessary workforce.

slavery was the only economy in black africa. Black africans would enslave other africans and use them to mine gold and farm for them. They would also use predatory techniques to bankrupt anybody that became too powerful through slavery and wars were fought over tax collection which was gold collection. In places like the Congo people would capture their neighbors and sell them in the night to slave traders for a handful of beads. Since the "trade winds" blew from west africa to the Americas. Europeans would port at these slave empires before making the trip to the americas. And since their economies were completely slave based, they had relatively little else to trade but food and slaves. So traders bought slaves to sell in america so they weren't wasting a trip, sometimes they'd buy slaves to put on their own plantations, where they'd take the sugar or whatever and then sell it in the american colonies. Americans of course were showered with slaves for relatively cheap and slaves were taken into the undeveloped southern interior where land was cheap to set up plantations.

You got some source on that, buddy? I didn't think so. It appears that you're not college educated, because a person who is college educated would've known that wouldn't have held up in legitimated thinking situation.

      This is completely made up
the concept of chattel slavery didn't even exist in Africa. there was no permanent slave class. Certain ethnic groups/tribes weren't seen as "slave-like" or better suited to slave labor.
From the evidence I've seen, Africans "enslaved" war captives and rivals, but gave them independence after 7-15 years depending on the kingdom. This was common place everywhere in the world since ancient times. the only exceptions to this were the brutal arab and anglo slave trades which are also the most infamous and recent examples of slavery.

Africans in the Americas were likewise not perceived as slaves at all until the early 1700s, when Irish slaves were replaced with West African slaves. The reasons for this are pretty obvious: Africans knew how to grow cash crops and do artisanal jobs like tanning, brickmaking, iron working, weaving, and so on. The irish were less capable of these things and seen as effectively useless by Anglo slave traders. In fact the anglos only wanted Irish girls, not men, so that they could breed africans and irish together to make a "better" slave race for working in hot weather and whatnot

But the Irish were never slaves

How were they not slaves? even if they weren't called slaves back then, they were treated like slaves by their owners.

          >From 1641 to 1652, over 500,000 Irish were killed by the English and another 300,000 were sold as slaves. Ireland’s population fell from about 1,500,000 to 600,000 in one single decade.
          This is well documented

          >During the 1650s, over 100,000 Irish children between the ages of 10 and 14 were taken from their parents and sold as slaves in the West Indies, Virginia and New England. In this decade, 52,000 Irish (mostly women and children) were sold to Barbados and Virginia. Another 30,000 Irish men and women were also transported and sold to the highest bidder. In 1656, Cromwell ordered that 2000 Irish children be taken to Jamaica and sold as slaves to English settlers.
          This is well documented

          >African slaves were very expensive during the late 1600s (50 Sterling). Irish slaves came cheap (no more than 5 Sterling).
there are trade records explicitly detailing these prices

          >This practice of interbreeding Irish females with African men went on for several decades and was so widespread that, in 1681, legislation was passed “forbidding the practice of mating Irish slave women to African slave men for the purpose of producing slaves for sale.” In short, it was stopped only because it interfered with the profits of a large slave transport company.
You can't make this up lmao

Yeah, I've heard it all before.
            >African slaves weren't really 'slaves', they were more like servants, and it wasn't so bad because they weren't racist which is the real crime, blah blah
No, they were slaves. They were property to be traded like livestock, which is the definition of chattel slavery. They had absolutely no rights in most cases, they could be buried alive with their deceased masters, or castrated and marched over the Sahara, or sent to the galleys where it was widely believed they would be cannibalized. They weren't 'a part of the family' or some shit, and they weren't just given their freedom after however many years.

The idea that American slavery was some super-unique racist slavery that was worse than any other slavery that ever existed is some of the dumbest propaganda I've ever heard. Maybe Haitian slavery was worse than African slavery, but African slavery was far worse than US slavery by any metric.

And all that shit about African slaves being uniquely skilled at agriculture and whatever is pretty funny considering they never invented the plough.

            >but African slavery was far worse than US slavery by any metric
I’d say only so much as if you were unlucky enough to wind up in Dahomey and thrown off the roof of the palace. On the whole generational slavery and the following dehumanization of a whole race of people in the americas, and next to no way to emancipate yourself made New world slavery uniquely worse compared to Africa. On the whole there really isn’t any difference from working in some Mandinka run Kola plantation or a Virginian cotton farm.
            >Maybe Haitian slavery was worse than African slavery
Haiti wasn’t the only new world plantation colony that functioned like that you know?

            >dehumanization of a whole race of people in the americas... made New world slavery uniquely worse
Why? What makes a race based slave class worse than other forms of slavery?

Because... BECAUSE IT JUST IS OKAY? It's worse being a black slave in America and not getting your testicles ground to a pulp than being a black slave in Africa and getting your testicles ground to a pulp by rival tribesmen! Stop being a chud!

Whatever gets you the most cotton is strength, and picking cotton is the polar opposite of that. Picking cotton is an inherently FEMININE task. Same with working for and producing bread. No great man has ever laid his arms down to mill some bread and repeatedly churn shit all day long. He has the strength to do it, but it's still a very mundane, boring (i.e. evil, feminine) task. Feminity and feminism are the greatest evils of all time, and it's the spoken truth. Feminity is the essence of the worker and democracy.

The natural path to avoiding being so feminine in gaining the cotton is to either steal it (likely from some femmes who have plucked it for theirselves), or to have a femme do it for you. This is called domination, slavery, aristocracy.

Due to american femmes being mostly unavailable and African femmes being available, however, 'femme' somehow mutated into "black person" over time even though the word is supposed to be about social class, not color. This is how you have modern racism.

Because cotton was never going to make money as a cash crop unless you had free labor and a self-reproducing labor system on top of that. Egypt was still the breadbasket of the world in terms of cotton production right up through the Civil War, which is why no European powers came to the aid of the Confederacy after the Anaconda Plan blockade was completed. They just bought their fricking cotton elsewhere.
Yes, Confederate leadership was actually this fricking stupid and there would have likely never been a civil war (or possibly even abolition of the slave trade) if the South had just grown fricking tobacco and not industrialized their slave population.
