They used to mock us for the same thing in 2013. Why can't old people just show young people how to do shit without making them feel awful for not knowing it out of the womb?

I also do not understand why passing down knowledge is not seen as a social responsibility. Why make fun of somebody for not knowing how to do something when you can instead teach them and form a better person? This proclivity towards humiliating others is precisely why the American people are so atomized nowadays.

The issue isn't them not knowing how to use the hardware. The issue is they refuse to make a genuine effort to learn, bitch that it won't just scan directly to their cellphone, and sometimes get so frustrated that they damage the expensive shared office appliance when it doesn't work the way they think it should after being told for the 20th time what they need to do to accomplish what they're responsible for doing that day. The company I work for has desperately tried hiring workers to replace the retiring boomers and of the zoomers who didn't get fired for stealing goods from the warehouse and trying to personally sell the hardware using photos taken in the warehouse, 23 out of the 31 were let go for lying about their desktop environment experience on their application. They couldn't even find the filesystem let alone install a generic driver, nor were they capable of or willing to learn when I attempted to teach them. The only zoomer who's still around is only capable because his older millennial brother got him into retro electronics as a kid and he has an autistic obsession with win95

So if your workplace is having trouble with a teachable skill, why aren't they just hiring based on potential and training their new employees?

            Anonymous

I already indicated in the post why that doesn't work. They'll say they're capable and willing to learn to get the position but when it comes time to actually put that to the test they lack the attention span and interest to learn. They get frustrated and stop showing up or at the first sign of difficulty instead of asking for help or guidance they just hide in the bathroom and watch TikToks until I realize they've been missing for an hour and have to find them. It's baffling and hard to convey to people who haven't had to deal with non cream of the crop zoomers in the workplace.

And I already addressed your concerns by saying that your employer needs to select for potential, meaning certain personality traits.

I think they also can't accept that they are the problem.

Something doesn't work but the attitude is "It's broken!" Or "I haven't been shown!" Instead of "Ok I don't know but I'll figure it out".

Maybe because everything is idiot proofed these days, so when it's not tghe idiots are lost.

You should be able to figure this shit out on your own.

That's the issue here.... people lost their problem solving ability. They encounter a challenge and immediately act like a helpless child "I can't do this! I need help!"

"What have you done to try and fix it?"
"I don't know how! You need to show me!"
Then you show them, literally it's just go to settings and it's right there. Beyond me why people cant push a couple of buttons and figure it out.

          >nobody below [insert age here] can problem solve
You can't seriously believe this, right? You select for problem solvers. There are plenty of people who can solve problems of all ages.

The answer is that boomers have a severe inferiority complex towards the youth. They are constantly trying to prove their superiority over “millennials” (anyone younger than 50) and often through sabotage. Workplace credentialism, social security, real estate inflation, etc. are all intentional boomer financial conspiracies upheld to make the youth uncompetitive in the marketplace. Therefore reaffirming the baby boomer’s manufactured self-image of superiority.

Why do they act like this? It’s because the boomers are the first generation of westerners indoctrinated into materialist elitism, the current religion of the west.

This is a very compelling theory. Now that the boomers are retiring from the workforce however, many of the members of leadership that younger employees interact with are Gen X and Millenials.

The Boomers have been well cared for by the gov. As the government started deindustrializing, they and the media shit on the workers getting displaced.
When I grew up watching Steelcase, Delphi, ford, GM, etc pulled out there were constant media stories blaming the workers. The stories of 100/hr janitors and lazy employees always on break. There were also tons of stories about how the workers never stopped working in Mexico.

This is just more of that same shit. Paint them as fools and no one care when they get fucked

It's not the copy function they struggle with. It's the scan function because the scan function requires a storage or other device to receive the scanned pages. Zoomers struggle navigating settings menus in mobile touch screen interfaces. They're borderline useless in any kind of desktop environment that uses a mouse or keyboard.

I was watching a yt vid on the quake 3 fast inverse square algo. Carmack is pretty dope but I quickly realized we're quickly dismantling the pipeline that creates minds like those.
I'm pretty good with tech but I got a computer late, 7th/8th grade. Could turn it inside out before I had. Good at a math but the school didn't have anyways to combine the two pursuits, parents had no clue. Programming books were 50 bucks a pop and 2 hours away in Portland.
And I was lucky. But shit didn't align with my age interests and resources.
Now everything is a poke and prod slab. You ain't installing cd roms into your soundcards ide port anymore. You ain't using telnet to talk to classmates when the line from coast to Portland goes out in a storm.

Don't "hook up" your printer to the internet, all the iot garbage is what makes them unusable, constantly trying to update or downloading stuff when its trying to print, like Windows (Cortana needs to shut down your computer for updates right now while you are trying to do something important.)

Well if you think about it this gives them a big advantage of not being dependent or assuming technology like millennials, for example zoomers can operate a lanwn mower and weed eater where millennials wouldn't be able to figure it out since there isn't a like button on the dam thing. Same changing flat tires, I've never ever saw a millennials capable of doing it but I have saw a few zoomers and pretty much everyone else. Tech dependency is gay and nothing to be proud of. Are you sure you're really using the tech or is it using you? Really the zoomers just need to get better hair cuts not that fake afro shit

Why do so few people have a desire to understand how the world works?
Anons I really want to know.
When I was a kid I was a delinquent but I still one math competitions, I was selected to be a page at the Oregon state capital, with a stern fucking warning not to fuck it up by a teacher who took an interest in me.
There were maybe 6 of us total in my grade at the same level. Half those kids were from well off homes, fair enough. The older I got the less of these people I find. Even those kids when I find them again on FB or ig they lead middling lives. No passions displayed.
What creates passion? What maintains it? It was common in the 19th century for well to do men to pursue science. That is not the case today.
Everyone at best ends up fishing or maybe boating. No has pursuits, no one has a drive to understand how the world works.
What is our future at this pace?

My sister is really dumb with anything tech related. But she can use her iPhone......

I am 25 almost 26, so like I am almost a younger millennial.

I am glad my mom bought me a shitbox computer. I upgraded the ram to play games better. This was 2010ish. Ran windows xp, 80gb hard drive.

Only had 256mb on xp Sp2, really?

So i mowed some yards and bought a 1gb stick. I didn't realize this, the two ram sticks were incompatible.

Took several blue screen before I removed the 256mb stick.

But I started to learn something.

But now I have adult money to play with,

    RTx 4090 yeah......
