    >The smoky hut (kurnaia izba, chërnaia izba) was the home of most Russians until relatively recently. To conserve as much as 80 percent of their fuel, the Russians did not vent their stoves outside through a chimney, but through a smoke hole in the back of the stove directly into the room... all the smoke went into the room. The heating season was about six months per year.
    > "Wood smoke is one of the most harmful air pollutants on earth," claimed Gerd Oberfeld, Salzburg, Austria, epidemiologist of the Public Health Office. One cannot help but suspect that this was true for the Eastern Slavs inhabiting Ukraine, Belarus', and Russia, who for half of the year blasted it out of their stoves into their smoky huts. In addition to all the health effects listed in this article, especially increased mortality rates in every category of the population, the smoky hut almost certainly reduced the capacity of the population to work, contributing to the infamous "backwardness" (otstalost') of Russia. Finally, living in the smoky hut must have caused depression and other mental problems that increased the Russians' notorious thirst for alcohol.

I wish we were much more backwards than we actually are.
Westerners are even more corrupt than us though, it's just that they are also wealthier so whereas they can afford to have 90 000 NGOs harassing our people and constantly churning out "studies" on how we are retarded and corrupt and need to be governed by others, we are too poor to do something like that and, really, too self-centred to really conceive of such a strategy.

Shut the fuck up, Ivan. The Soviet Union was its own destructor, no one else's. Maybe next time don't let a retard like Brezhnev into power.

It wasn't Brezhnev's problem, it was de-Stalinisation. Policy of co-existence led to westernisation and consequently also to subversive retards like Gorbachev. That's life for you, I suppose.

          >It wasn't Brezhnev's problem, it was de-Stalinisation.
The Soviet Union didn't experience economic and social stagnation problems until Brezhnev. It's practically undebatable that most of his policies created an irreversible path to the Union's collapse.
          >Policy of co-existence led to westernisation
What the fuck are you even talking about? Perpetual antagonism between the US and USSR wasn't sustainable and would've just created more problems. Co-existence at the very least stopped numerous potential crises.
          >and consequently also to subversive retards like Gorbachev
Gorby was a retard, but the steps towards USSR's collapse were set in motion long before he took power.

Economic considerations are irrelevant if there is political and military will. The policy of co-existence and its consequent slackening of will is what caused people to be easily moved by economic nonsense. At that point, Gorbachev delivered the death blow by crippling political authority in the Warsaw Pact, and, of course, the Soviet economy as well. If it wasn't for Gorbachev, Eastern Europe would be experiencing its own China-style growth today.

Lmao what? You can have all the "OUR MILITARY IS DA STRONGEST RAH-RAH" shit you want, that doesn't make your economic situation ignorable. What good is a bunch of tanks if Moscow's the only place around with actually decent food to buy?
              >At that point, Gorbachev delivered the death blow by crippling political authority in the Warsaw Pact, and, of course, the Soviet economy as well. If it wasn't for Gorbachev, Eastern Europe would be experiencing its own China-style growth today.
No, it wouldn't. Brezhnev's policies had already caused irreversible damage, the Eastern Bloc nations were in the shitter, and even East Germany was at death's door. There was nothing Gorby could have done to save the Soviet Union at large, or its sphere.

The point is that you can maintain the territorial and political integrity if your nation so long as you have military force and will to do so. The Soviet Union had the force, it just lacked the will because of de-Stalinisation and retards like Gorbachev.
                >There was nothing Gorby could have done to save the Soviet Union at large, or its sphere.
No force on earth could have toppled the Soviet Union without Gorbachev's deliberate sabotage of the political apparatus.

The Soviet military can't magically solve the Bloc-wide and Soviet economic stagnation and dramatic downturn. Nor can they make everyone just ignore it. The issues the Soviet Union was going through at the time weren't ones that could be solved with a bullet.

Sure, but the bloc would never have collapsed if de-Stalinisation and its consequences hadn't undermined party discipline. If that had endured, all the other economic problems would have been solved in later decades, in a similar way as they were tackled in Chile and China.
Not that I am a fan of Marxism. I dislike Marxism, but the Warsaw Pact was certainly a cut above the shit we get now.

Too bad it won't be you because you're about to be replaced by immigrants in your own country. Maybe learn to govern yourself first.

It didn't "have" to happen but yeah Stalin was a dick.

It's hard to set up a republic in a area that's constantly under attack. They had different attempts at reforming and being more like western Europe but there were always issues that popped up. Like wars and assainations and the Lords acting up.

Lmao you're saying this as if one of the biggest corruption scandals in history of the EU hasn't been discovered few days ago and surprise surprise main culprits behind it were Greeks and Italians, no Slavs involved. Southern Europe is much more corrupt than any Slavic country except maybe Ukraine and Russia
