Manuals are objectively worse than autos now. RWD is only in decline because FWD is cheaper to produce. I6 and V8 because I4 is more fuel efficient. Sedans are only dying in western countries because fat social status middle class social climber hogs want big crossovers as a status symbol they can put on finance.

You can easily argue the performance aspect and forget everything else mentioned in this thread. In the early 2000's when the import scene was full retard, teams that were racing FWD and AWD imports began switching to automatic transmissions because the conversion/installation were netting shorter 1/4 mile times over manual transmissions with the same exact car, setup and driver. Fast forward two decades and you now have luxury performance cars with automatic transmissions that have tons of gears and change lightning quick along with some kind of paddle-shift/sport shift combination. Muh 1/4 mile times still reigns supreme with a lot of people when they consider the notion of performance. In that, you can compare new today M cars offered in automatic and manual trans and you will find that automatics are upwards of 2 tenths faster on paper and 3 tenths in real world driving by Joe homosexual.

I personally like driving manuals because the experience is more engaging and less boring. However, on long long drives and modern automatic is outstanding. So in summary and in current year the battle rages on between 'muh driving experience' and 'muh 1/4 times'.

Think about how dumb the average driver is
Then imagine they're driving on a wet or icy road or on worn tires and try to corner or change lanes
Or maybe panicking when encountering an unexpected situation on the road and slamming the brakes while yanking the steering wheel
If the car was RWD, I think them spinning out, ending up in a ditch or wrapping around a tree would be a safe bet.
Meanwhile in a FWD car, while the chance of the above is still very possible, it becomes significantly less likely as FWD cars are much easier to manage in these scenarios

The brz86 is like 2 seconds slower 0-60 on the auto version vs the manual version

      Not all autos are equal

        Anonymous

That's because the gutless sack of shit in front of that tranny gets all it's pathetic energy sapped by the auto. Meanwhile most other engines are putting out so much power that you don't have time to shift yourself. At that point the auto is going to be both faster on a track and in a straight line.

          Anonymous

For a board meant for car enthusiasts I see so much misinformation. The difference in HP between the auto and manual 86 is utterly negligible. The auto is slower to shift and can't be launched as aggressively as the manual. It also has far taller gearing. That's what kills it.

The reason manuals are dying off is because electric cars and full hybrids don't work at peak efficiency unless they are automatic.

You can get most Autos with a semi-auto mode where you can select your own gear for going down a hill for example, but obviously new cars are aimed at peak efficiency.

It is a bit sad that RWD cars are dying, but V8s are a meme. A straight 6 sounds better on imho, tuned and turbo'd it'll also mog it. They're just better.

    The rest I don't know.

Nobody needs more than 300 hp. I have a V6 chally that left some autist so SHOOK that he goes around shitting up the board pretending to be me and accusing me of stealing his pictures whenever I post it.

V6 muscle and sports cars just make sense now. They produce virgin 8 power and get way better mpg. Infact most v6 cars are the exact same vehicle as the higher trims except they handle even better in corners because they aren't as heavy in the front like some ancient loud shit engine. You also save money on the car itself which gives you more for performance mods like suspension and exhaust.

Bus riders will tell you to spend thousands more to make more noise. They know the superior vehicle.

    >FWD
For an econobox this means no transmission tunnel, more interior room, more space at the rear of the car now that there's no differential and driveshaft. FWD also allows for transverse engine with transaxle configuration in a front engine car which means less transmission loss from the crank to the wheels.
    >V6
3 cylinders long means it fits easily in a transverse configuration. The rear bank access is a pain in the dick but that's about it.
