They used to be. Then they succumbed to homosexualry like copying apple, soldering removable parts, and keeping 1366x768 alive. Dell is following in their footsteps. Everything else is worse.

    best keyboard
    worst lifetime/parts.

I've had three (3) thinkpads die on me for no aparent reason at all.
    >T61, monitor went dead for no reason
    >T530, monitor went dead, green lines and then messed up signal, no drop, it was sitting on the desk all the time.
    >Proceed to use the T530 with an external monitor, then after a few months it would not turn on, at all. bricked. for no reason.
    >T440, AGAIN the monitor dying, the backlight is dead, I can see the pixels if I hold a flashlight up against it.

    UGH. Never again.
Turns out all companies are trash, and everything breaks even on normal-non-demanding use

But for whatever reason my brother who has a Toshiba for years now, never had a problem. And the same thing with my unkle, he has an ancient Toshiba, amd phenom.. All this time it keeps going on, everyday, for like 13 years now.

Fuck I guess Toshiba might be on to something

      >T61, monitor went dead for no reason
This is from Lenovos better era, dunno what went wrong, most often T61 is solid

      >T530, monitor went dead, green lines and then messed up signal, no drop, it was sitting on the desk all the time.

These have well known bad MONITOR CONTROL BOARD not the panel itself. Your control board is fried, I'm sure of it. Monitor panel would work still. And so does your motherboard.

I attached a picture of what is monitor controller board. It kind of works as a gateway of signals between the TFT panel and the motherboard/GPU. Since these Lenovo T530 can infact be equipped by at least 3 different TFT technologies and the controller board can control any of them.

It has been made so, that Lenovo can easily supply whatever TFT they had ease access at the moment of shitting out a T530 (while it still had no screen) from a assembly line, as Lenovo actually doesnt make the monitors for their own laptops but buy monitor parts from Panasonic, AU Optronics (dead), Samsung, etc.

they aren't. a decade ago, people would buy some of the older models because barely used models were cheap, abundant, had a good keyboard, easy to upgrade, and worked well with linux. even back then, the contemporary models were not especially well regarded on LULZ and the new ones today aren't really any different

Best spot for it. Your bigger issue is that disgusting numpad putting everything out of center unless you're deformed on your right side.

i prefer a full numberpad. the trackpad move might not be the best move but still i use the numberpad so much

if i had chink hands the ctrl placement might make sense.
numpad is ideal when you're entering more than 3 #s at a time

    1. I've read that Lenovo computers have had glaring backdoors, either intentionally left there or not (in either case it's still dangerous)
    2. Other Chinese companies have been found spying on users, like Xiaomi phones that were sending users' browsing data back to China
    3. Western governments think that the PRC government can basically make any Chinese company spy for them if they want
    4. ThinkPads are expensive for what they are

Chinese products can sometimes offer good bang for buck but still, I'm just not sure I can trust them, and it's not for any political reasons, it's purely for pragmatic reasons. I don't want to be spied on or hacked.
