Why are all soccer games so low scoring?

A soccer goal is 500x the size of a soccer ball, but on average only 1-2 points get scored over the course of a game. Compare this to basketball where the rim is only 3x the size of the ball, but both teams score around 50 baskets per game. Is there a logical reason for this or do soccer players just suck?

Apply the same logic to pitch size vs ball size
A ball is 70cm in diameter, the pitch is 105 x 68 metres

Explain ice hockey. You can expect a total of 5 goals a game.

that's true, but that's still much much lower scoring than basketball. lacrosse is still much lower scoring than basketball.

        hockey also moves much faster.

Then you have the run all the way back to stop the counter offensive

The unironical easiest "fix" to soccer is increasing goal size.
Back in the 50s goalkeepers were 1.8m, 1.85m tall. Now a 1.9m gk is on the short end.

Meanwhile in basketball only recently did they find that 3>2.

I’m actually a sports theorist from Wisconsin studying in the UK right now. I’m putting together a plan which I will present formally to FIFA at some point
    >big glass walls preventing the ball from going out of play leading to constant stoppages and free kicks
    >a rule that a player cannot possess the ball for more than 5 consecutive seconds if they aren’t actively moving up the pitch
    >nets 35% wider and 10% taller
    >eliminate stoppage time and simply play on if there’s an injury etc, if it’s severe instantly remove that player from the game (if they’re on the floor for longer than 45 seconds)
    >players each have an earpiece that there manager can issue instructions through
    >instead of free kicks etc for fouls the goalie of your team has to sit out for a minute or 5 minutes depending on the severity of the foul
    >penalty shoot out at the end of games no matter the score to create tension, results can flip
    >play music or sound effects through speakers
    >give chant/ song sheets to fans on a schedule so they can sing along to licensed music or repeat encouraging lines chosen by the teams manager
    >shorten games by 25 mins
    >no half time, players are simply switched out for a B time half way in

    Thoughts?

You're thinking about the game in a too American and theoretical way. The essence of football is a group lads in the local field kicking a ball around freely. If you think about how the formal game is designed, it's just an expansion of this principle. It's why poorer countries can thrive in it — it's simple and low tech.

      >it rebounds and hits a POC player, knocking them out. nobody notices their brain bleeding for 45 seconds as the players are instructed by gareth to head up the pitch
      >after this he’s removed and as he dies on the way to hospital the announcer says they’ve penalised england by removing pickford for 5 minutes
      >bedlam as gareth screams into the mic, ordering england take a knee while 4 successive goals are scored into the net which takes up the entire back of the stadium

Football is more based on passing lanes and blocking/clogging them. Because basketball is played with your hands, you have more direct control of the ball — so it's less about passing lanes and more about direct dribbles.

The offside rule makes it way more difficult to advance the ball and get good goal-scoring opportunities than in other sports. Plus 11 on 11 means a lot of people to block and defend.

In basketball, it's against the rules to defend the basket as the ball descends into it. If you could stop the ball by putting your hands through the basket from its underside, then a single tall player could make scoring very difficult.

Also in basketball players use their hands (much easier to control the ball) and the basketball court is much smaller than the soccer field.
