    We're they?
I don't know many pantheons but weren't the female war related gods always more about wisdom and tactics and shit?

thats very broad, more like, deity of the act of war was male, deity of the making of war, that is the circlejerking of planning and strategy, was female

Because they inspire movement whereas masculine deities generally look like big rocks physically.

Besides Athena I can’t think of any super relevant examples. Most Indo European cultures had a couple deities for war but I think only in the case of the Greeks a female deity became the principal war deity. And that probably had more to do with the pre-eminence of Athens over anything else.

      Bellona, Morrigan, Sekhmet.

Bellona and Sekhmet definitely do not count as principal deities of war. Mars and Montu were both way more important as war deities in Rome and Egypt. I think every polytheistic will have at least one goddess associated with war but that also applies to every other concept that could be worshipped as a god. My point was that really only in the case of the Greeks the most venerated war deity was a woman. I really can’t speak on the case of Morrigan as I really don’t know know much about Irish mythology but that could be a good counterpoint even though I still don’t think that two examples proves a rule.

        >a female deity became the principal war deity
        Ares wasn't female Anon

Ares was a war god but more like a blood crazed berserker. Athena was more for structured tactical warfare

        >Ares symbolizes the cruel and undignified in war like pain, suffering, cruelty
        >Athena stands for the noble aspects like honor, tactics, courage, bravery

No the point of wars is stroking the egos of the elites who start them.

It's probably to avoid glorifying or promoting war/aggression.

    >war god is an alpha chad
    >I wanna be like the alpha chad
    >fight wars

    >war god is a female
    >don't wanna be like a female
    >avoid wars

Athena was like one of the rare cases where it happened. Ares was the god of bloody war while Athena was the goddess of war of finesse.

Because war and sex go hand in hand in many ancient religions/mythologies. A war goddess is seen as capable in both and is master of both life (giving birth) and death (killing people).

Because both kill a man. One kills a man spiritually (a woman) and the other kills a man physically (war).

we're born out of a woman, it only makes sense that a man should die in the arms of one.
