        Poo tier

I thought they were slightly better, I think that football is the 2nd most popular sport over there

They are really bad. Most of their NT is from indian league which only last 3 months so they have only 4 months of training plus for some reason they dont want diaspora to play for them. I remember Štimac saying they have 10-15 good players with indian heritage in europe that are willing to play for India but federation doesn't want them.

this sounds as if the local teams only want that sweet, sweet money from having players called up to the NT, such a common occurrence in the third world

They improved a lot tbh but mostly because they used to lose to teams like guam
Now in a good day, they can take a 0-0 out of uzbekistan

Qatar and Japan are strong enough right now to pull an upset win in the World Cup, Japan in particular I'd give good odds of eliminating Spain in the group stage of the WC right now
Iran, South Korea, Australia and Saudi Arabia are good enough for an upset win in the 2023 Asian Cup (but have no hope of being the Dark Horse in FIFA)
UAE is the only other contender but they would have to pick up their game first

The Asian Cup has 7 teams worth watching when the knockout stage takes 8, bit sad isn't it?

I went from this thread to degen gambling sites because I wanted to put money on Japan beating Spain for a laugh

Bookies have no clue what level the AFC plays on, the odds of AFC A teams beating B teams from conmebol and UEFA are absurdly good when there should be no contest
Yeah I'm thinking this year I'm gonna pick up a gambling addiction

lack of interest mostly, Japan is the only country that loves the sport unconditionally
Arab Money countries love to buy a winning team for the prestige but it's not a national pride thing so the players are uninvested
South Korea is in it because Japan is good at it so they have to follow their rivalry
Australia has a love for it that comes second to many, many other sports
The rest of Asia just has sports as a lower priority than putting food on the table
I hope this is the year an AFC team will win FIFA but I dont feel confident enough to put money on it

most of SK players are from their own league while most of JP players are playing in top european league, sure japan dont have actual top talent like Son but squad-wise as a whole, they're still better than SK.

          >SK has better individual players but Japan has a more consistent development
yes, but the thing is, SK's population is rapidly declining. seriously, the number of young people in SK is dwindling so much they're closing down schools left and right. Japan also has a declining population but they still boast a population of 125 million people vs SK's 50 million. a lot of people think it's a matter of time before SK's player pool gets so small that they basically can't compete with Japan on any level. AFC could very well be dominated by japan in the near future for a long time.

The solution is simple: reunite with North Korea. Create one Big Korea and make a football team out of it. NK kicked Italy out of the WC in 1966, SK did the same in 02. Bring a Big Korea to kick out Italy out of yet another world cup. The circle must be completed.

there's also the fact that professional football is relatively young in AFC, started around 20-30 years back depending on countries.

Lol when I would visit india as a kid I’d watch their local soccer league. They have a ton of passion for the game. The Kolkata derby between mohun bagan and KEB was very hype and a scintillating performance.

However, the quality of soccer was as good as I see in overweight Mexican/white/arab dads playing on Sunday’s here at the local soccer fields in california.

It’s not even that Indians don’t have the tactical or technical acumen. Indian street slumdogs can do lots of keepy uppies and nice skill moves with a good first touch.

They just have shit tier cardio and are weak. Literally cannot run for more than 3 minutes. And once you’re tired the quality of soccer goes down a lot.

I mean scintillating atmosphere. Not performance. Again the quality of soccer than Indians play is atrocious .

Like the fat slow kids who can touch the ball really nicely but are shit at actually moving around

It gets just as hot in Senegal, Morocco, Egypt, Algeria, Brazil, etc.
all these countries produce great soccer players and soccer culture.

Please don’t telll me you think Algeria, Egypt, Ghana, Senegal, Nigeria, etc are less hot than india.

I don’t think it shit tier cardio or endurance. It’s shit tier strength and sprinting/shirt running speeds. A lot of Indians are vegans or flexatarian (eat meat once a week or two weeks). I assume the athletes are not but still that type of lifestyle is in their minds. Creatine is a nutrition that is only find in red and white meat that helps with high intensity exercises (running at max speed/powerlifting etc) due to the fact that it gets stored in muscle.

most of asia has NEVER seen what proper soccer management looks like until very recently. HK got picrel from SK to come and help out and then they qualified. there's still a lot of low hanging fruits in these places that can be addressed to quickly increase their competitiveness.

said. Most Asian teams have been getting more consistent once they get either direct or indirect (via managers' prior experience) ties to european football clubs. Like Liverpool or Dortmund having subsidized football schools in Asia (or taking asian talent to Europe to enroll on these, i can't remember right now)
