He's probably referring to how whenever anime/manga has gay characters (yuri/yaoi), androgynous characters (traps, tomboys), or strong women, no one cares. But whenever it's done in western media, it's considered "pozzed".

How is this even a real question?

American rock bands are to music what China is to technology.

You replicate, but you can't innovate.

didn't rock music originated in the united states? Rock is essentially a glorified r&b rhythmic shuffle with a more blues-oriented edge that later evolved to a more slick pop sound that incorporates a more competent western art sound. Rock is an american thing

I think otakus listen exclusively to Japanese music. I'm not saying that they lack originality, but as someone who listens mostly to Western music, I have seen Japanese people ripping off Western music

Why are you comparing like 50+ countries to a nation lol
British rock, German rock, and so on are doing the same exact thing Japan's doing, playing in an American genre.

Japs pioneered brutal prog which went onto influence Western musicians like John Zorn and Mike Patton and Western bands like Lightning Bolt The Flying Luttenbachers

The massive explosion of avant-rock/avant-prog/brutal prog in America during the 90s was directly the result of John Zorn being influenced by 80s Japanese brutal prog bands in Naked City and exposing/promoting 80s Japanese brutal prog bands on his label throughout the 90s and helping them tour America.

On the same scale that prog and kraut rock inspired musicians? If you're into avant-prog or whatever then cool, but it's a joke to suggest they're in the same league as CAN or Pink Floyd in terms of importance to music

              >it's a joke to suggest they're in the same league as CAN or Pink Floyd
Nobody did. You said Japan didn't pioneer a genre when Japan pretty much laid the groundwork and influences for a lot of the best "modern prog" after the stagnation and lack of innovation that plagued the 80s.

Prog rock isn't backwater. Does Genesis sound like Chuck Berry? Avant-Brutal-Prog-Core is.
Nobody cares about modern prog in the same way that they do about the old euro stuff anyway so its a moot point. If they did pioneer a genre it was a shit one that left no real impression on music except amongst a handful of autistic weaboos.
I'm sorry dude but the nips just aren't that creative really. They can run with an existing concept and often perfect it, but original work is almost nonexistent.
Any other good subgenres from the nips? The euros have metal, shoegaze, prog, punk, hard rock and krautrock. And most of those are from the UK.

I always liked American rock better because it's garagie street level style:
Garage rock, blues rock, punk, thrash, sludge, hardcore etc
But to be fair UK has some of the best highligths of the entire genre
