Witten, Tao, Mochizuki, Villani, Scholze, Perelman(though he wouldn't show up)

Witten is the only physicist that'd be prominent at a physics conference? No others are great?

No one has create new, proven fundamental physics since the 1970's. Not even Witten qualifies.

Zeilinger is great in terms of experimentalists. Aspect as well.

I agree that witten sounds funny when he talks, but it would seem that a large majority of his work, on susy, has been ruled out as something that actually exists. Tao is very good at winning awards and now spends his days trying to find how many prime numbers are less than two numbers apart, which is a seemingly useless field of research

        Susy work?

I want to get paid half a million a year doing "useless" work like Tao as well

Kinda sad that those guys probably don't understand much of each other's work.

This is probably the only correct answer in the thread. I'm amazing at so many meme answers most you aren't even in school it seems

I mean that Maldacena is probably the greatest living theoretical physicist at the moment. Given that most of those in OPs picture were foremost theoretical physicists of the time, then it seems logical they would do the same now.

wolfram came close to greatness, but he ruined his ToE by buying into quantum bullshit.

        Anonymous

He ruined it by thinking Conway's Game of Life is the ultimate explanatory mechanism for the universe. He's just a Chris-chan tier autist who got obsessed with cellular automata not Sonic.

no, that part was completely fine. it was when he assumed that "all possible rules are running in our universe" that it went to shit. this mirrors the "all possible trajectories" of the feynman path integral in quantum mechanics. it is bullshit, in reality, only one path is taken, you just may not know which. as a result of this, wolfram has ended up in the same spot that quantum mechanics finds itself, totally unable to solve the measurement problem.

It's a legitimate field of study, he just... Never achieved any results. He goes on and on about his vague theories about entropy.
