Polk is objectively the most flawless president. He fulfilled all his campaign promises in one term, spread the US from sea to shining sea, won a war against Mexico, and got a bunch of new states added to the Union.

I’ll take ‘Things that are directly responsible for the ignition of the Civil War’, Alex.

Alex is dead and the civil war was inevitable.

Didn't realize we acquired Kansas and Nebraska during the Mexican-American War.

In terms of ability? One of the Roosevelts
They both completely dominated politics when they were in office and got everything they wanted done, done while remaining massively popular to this day
    In terms of composure? Lincoln
He became president in the most trying time possible, kept himself calm, played his hand where he needed to and stayed out when he wasn't needed, a class act to the end, even if he makes southerners seetge
In terms of ambition? I'd put Eisenhower out there

Politically? Jackson, Teddy, Coolidge, Adams, Buuren, Nixon and Eisenhower
    Wielding power? Roosevelts. No question.
