Who is the best programmer currently alive? Posted on May 19, 2023 by Anonymous Who is the best programmer currently alive?
probably a giant obnoxious homosexual
Me. No, I will not reveal my identity but you've likely heard my name mentioned in passing at the very least.
the revered hacker - "LULZ"
That'll be me.
Stop pretending to be me, asshole.
The best programmer is a cat? Interesting.
I cringe each time I see this asiatic because of how ugly she is
>noo how could he marry that goblin, Linus was supposed to be mine!!
>rich as fuck
>can talk and entertaining
wait for it
kek if you're under 5'10 there is no point in even trying
Do you happen to be a big hairy gay dude? That’s the main demographic for his looks
It knows it's in danger.
Do you think she's going to cook it?
Poor thing saw the grill right next to them
Are they both possessed what the fuck
this pic legit startled me.
I have no idea how that happened since I don't even blink anymore at gore videos and whatnot.
don't burn the rice anons, it's not worth it and the risk of creating more daywalkers is too great.
>room full of space and science shit
could be bongs and some faggy flags
this was my first thought but then I felt weird about it
he gets tons of real and cool shit done but there's probably some obscure guy who is technically better but making less shit
gates is not a programmer
he didn't even grasp objects
he created the mess of messes and walked away
Clearly you have never seen what genuine incompetence and lack of controls offered by visual basic does to a project. It becomes insanity slapped together in the most ram-shackled way imaginable
Who is the best programmer currently alive? (OP)
The last code he personally wrote for Microsoft was for the Radio Shack Model 100 in 1983. I have a Model 100 and it's a really cool piece, but 1983 is not exactly staying current on programming skills.
At Epstein's island parties, Bill Gates was definitely the best programmer out of all the celebrities
Wrong, RMS was also invited.
If people knew about him, he wouldn't be the best
He is in this board's sticky.
Drew Devault is not in the sticky (should be though!)
Let's see. Terry isn't alive, Satania isn't a programmer, and RMS stopped programming. So it's Steve Baller then. Developers developers developers!
>Terry isn't ali-
His body was never found. Really makes you think.
the glownaggers hold him hostage in a D.U.M.B. and forced him to program chatGPT
Real answer: Donald Knuth.
Who is the best programmer currently alive? (OP)
>Real answer: Donald Knuth.
Calling someone like that a mere "programmer" is silly, he's no Pajeet wasting time on bullshit ephemeral fad tech of the hour, but rather a theoretical CS theoretician or such. It's insane to think I was reading some dusty 1970s IEEE Computer journals and would see what he was up to at the time and here Knuth still is plugging away at his lifework with volumes projected years into the future. With the passing of McCarthy, Minsky, Dijkstra and other CS pioneers Knuth is like the last one alive and still active (and significantly active at that) while Ed Fredkin is still around but even his digital physics site is down.
Calling knuth active is very much a figure of speech. His skills have not moved for 25 years, he refuses to upgrade or to learn of what has changed at all, and it shows in his "work" (if it can be called that).
Calling him something as competent as a programmer would be stupid, even pajeet programs better than he does.
Haha, cope harder mere coder. For the Theoretical CS Chad, like Knuth, nothing has changed nor is there this illusory need to "upgrade" to some faddish Pajeetery tech, as the eternal Platonic truths of algorithm analysis are above the mere mortals tied to such mundane matters.
Why are you so deeply tech illiterate despite being on a tech board? Try >>>/x/ since it seems more your speed.
Sometimes LULZentists slum here for laughs, and besides your post smells like curry. Actual computer science, i.e. TOC, Knuth's work, etc. is probably more on topic on LULZ anyways.
my fucking sides
there is nothing left for him to learn, only to teach.
programming isn't about knowing how to use the latest js framework to make a blog
>(and significantly active at that)
What does he still do? Does he have a github or substack or something?
Theoretical computer science can be carried out with no computer at all, and is. Knuths work is in form of fasicles etc. published in the continuing Art of Computer Programming
And you smell like poo and vindaloo
You sound like a massive homosexual.
I hope to god he finishes taop before he died. It would be a shame for the world to lose such info
The creator of reddit
Hipp, Bellard or Carmack I think.
But you have to define "best programmer" for a definitive answer.
D Richard Hipp. Writes SQLite, which you might have heard of. You will have used software using it.
where does this meme of carmack being a god programmer come from
He invented 3D games.
he wasn't even known in the doom1,2,quake1 era
became a celebrity because of his quakecon keynotes, many years later, when he was mostly not relevant anymore
You genuinely weren't alive back then if you believe any of this shit you are spouting. People would send him e-mails asking how to implement CSG in their games at other studios when he was blazing the trail for realtime 3d graphics.
i guess maybe developers knew him?
i was just a normal kid pirating the games. never heard the name until a decade later
All 3D shooters are iterations of his original engine
I'm not saying he is or isn't the best programmer, only he is a top one
Probably one of those eastern european technowizards that hangs out on suspicious looking internet forums hacking laptop BIOS chips and other proprietary tech with only a Soviet-made oscilloscope and a decade-old Dell laptop with a handmade ExpressCard adapter hanging out of it for hooking up literally anything that has ever entered his commieblock apartment
my cat (he likes pascal)
My uncle, Dave. He once wrassled a pitbull and won.
>who is the best carpenter currently alive
>who is the best mason currently alive
no such thing
best means better than the others
you're saying that every programmer has equal skills
well pacman written with the help of unity takes around 1gb of space
the original one takes around 32k
the first one couldn't be even stored on a typical 80s computer, while the other would run like a charm
it's easy to write such a game
>muh obscure platform
just opt out for every platform you want to target instead of being like a webshit homosexual
as you can see, there are programmers that are better or worse than someone else
there are also carpenters and masons who are better than others but could you name the best ones?
that's a fair argument
I couldn't name them if they're not known
>comparing programmers to masons and carpenters
You're right, that's an insult to carpenters and masons.
I've never liked stallman and this is the last nail in the coffin for me. Total homosexual
Well, it's at least laptop stickers of projects he himself started and have run
It's me, even if I don't know how to code.
John Carmack, no contest
>John Carmack, no contest
everything he touches becomes beter.
The amount of power he managed to squeeze out of the quest 2 for example is impressive.
Occulus quest 3 is doomed now that carmack left.
carmack's job at meta was literally writing ONE (1) email every week criticizing whatever he thought should be done in a different way. he didn't wrote a single line of code in his last 4 years there
and in the first place, he was hired by oculus just as a PR stunt, to impress potential buyers. it worked.
Reasons are too many to list, but the biggest one that comes to mind is Binary Space Partitioning, it only existed as a theoretical concept in a paper, then he just implemented it
Wow he implemented an algorithm that he read about in a paper, what a genius. Unironically, that's all it took in 1990 to be considered a genius programmer.
you're an idiot, anon
No, that guy is right and you're just an easily impressed retard.
I agree with you. Real programmers never write software.
I bet that you are also impressed that Michael Abrash "invented" mode X by reading the VGA registers documentation.
Best post ITT. I nominate this anon as best programmer who ever lived, simply because it's clear from this thread that everyone else is too stupid to breathe unassisted.
Isn't that what every game engine programmer does even to this day?
>Wow he implemented an algorithm that he read about in a paper, what a genius
Larry Ellison did that with Codd's paper on relational theory, making the Oracle database, and made billions, owns Hawaiian island, built $200M shogun's palace, etc. (with a little help from the CIA).
Some homosexuals have all the luck, not necessarily genius.
Randy Linden > John Carmack
Probably someone that google hired a decade ago just because they were afraid a competitor would hire him if they didn't, and he hasn't written a single line of code or even opened his laptop since then.
There's no answer to your question, because there's no single way to characterize "best". You're probably better off just not worrying about it and focusing on your own interests instead.
Drew Devault, hands down
who is Drew DeVault?
A mentally ill left wing nutjob freak who occasionally posts on LULZ complimenting himself.
Let's see your operating system, homosexual
jesus christ, get some taste and some perspective
Why of course I know him, he's me
I can't believe people actually watch this tranny homosexual. Byuu did not kill himself.
I miss Byuu like you wouldn't believe
>no one has mentioned Dave Cutler or Oleg Kiselyov
feels bad 🙁
The world will say his name
Soulja boy tell em
This. He singlehandedly developed a pretty good handheld game system.
Either a troll or a genuine retard
It's Elon 100%
musk is a complete braindead idiot
what did he do wrong?
>what did he do wrong?
Let us see:
>fired a bunch of people from Twitter, just to realize that they had an use
>wants to pollute the sky with a bunch of satellites, making meteor detection harder
>dipping his toes into antisemitism
>fuelning the egos of techbros who doesn't realize that they won't even make middle management
>making shitty spacecrafts with literal touch screen panels (there's a reason that serious crafts have buttons on their sticks and wheels, because of the finger tip feel)
>Hyperloop that just blocks any constructive solutions to California's public transportation question
>blatant lies about public transportation in general, such as "Le ebil serial killerz lurking in the subwayz! XD"
>wisfhul thinking about Neuralink, used a picture of scary brain stuff with no context given at a presentation
>flamethrowers for le zonbi apokalyps! XD
>inherited a bunch of money from his father who ran an emerald mine in South Africa
The only good thing is that he serves as a shibboleth for those who still believes in Le Stronk Man™. This video says it all:
Can we declare nerdism dead once and for all?
Oh, found this pic @ https://musk-city.com/
It's basically Nerd CULTure: The Basedening.
you are somehow even more retarded than his fanboys
a bunch of people from Twitter, just to realize that they had an use
Fired a lot of people, demonstrating they were dead weight, thus inspiring FAANG to do teh same.
Strangely nobody is complaining that Applel, Google and FB are axing jobs left right and centre.
>chatbot, take every reddit talking point about elon musk - EVERY SINGLE ONE, CHATBOT - and format them into a LULZ.org post
>EV botnet cars
No doubt Drew Devault. The guy made an os, window manager, library for making window managers in wayland and he made his own github
That's going to have to be Rohithaditya Sneedharam. /thread
This. A single man causes hundreds of westoid soidevs to experience a meltdown
I got like 200 emails because of sneedharam. After he got banned from Github he went on Twitter and @ the PM of India, asking him to help him get unbanned.
Not me, that's for sure.
Lex Fridman or Elon Musk
not the best, but carmack is up there.
Some no-name guy you don't know working on something bound up by an NDA. Anyone posting named people is a retard.
very edgy, anon. i hope someone touches your penis one day other than yourself
that's a great meme you took from your grandma, meanwhile you're spouting dumb contrarian shit like an edgelord, ergo, you're being edgy
He's right. You're not using that term correctly.
>implying that open source programmers aren't the best ones
NDAs usually don't forbid you from talking to people about your profession in vague terms unless you work in some top secret shit.
NTA but the sad truth of our times is that the best and the brightests are no longer working on physics, medicine, electronics, space exploration or the other things they did 60 years ago. No, instead they are fuelling the surveillance economy, working on ever newer ways to extract more money from your existence, and it will increasingly get worse.
We know FAANG has vast libraries of images they process and do image recognition on. Most likely they know more about your health than you do. This data is enormously valuable to the health and insurance industry. A bad gait will see your insurance premium rise inexplicably. Perhaps Apple knows you have advanced sarcoma, and you can no longer get reasonable health insurance. Perhaps FB saw you next to your car wreck, and voila, your car insurance premium took to the skies.
NDA or not, they would never admit to their contributions here.
This. A real programmer wouldn't spend 10 minutes marketing their name or building a public brand.
I don't see anybody else matching his autistic brain.
I nominate Andreas Kling, but must admit it is a draw between him and Bellard.
although I like Andreas and his project, he's nowhere near the level of Bellard.
It will always amaze me how profoundly retarded you zoomers are.
the Bellard's formula was discovered in 1997, a year you weren't even born yet. go back wanking on your ecelebs.
Not everyone is a zoomer like you.
Moreover not everyone (thank God) is clinically retarded as you are. After all, some people don't do such ludicrous things as posting on a tech board while being technologically illiterate as you love doing.
give me a name instead of trolling
so making ffmpeg, qemu, tcc and a shit ton of other stuff is not a massive achievement then?
nocoder naggers don't have a say on this topic
It's a big achievement, but no more than any other non-pajeet-tier dev in a lifetime. Nothing particularly impressive comes into play in any of those software, it's just discipline and perseverance.
>just discipline and perseverance
something 99.9999% of people lack
that makes bellard one in a million
He's 1 in 25 at best lmao You're deeply deluded to think everyone is like you.
You managed to contradict yourself in a single sentence.
It's OK, retardo, one day you'll be able to understand! I believe in you!
Who hurt you champ?
(Champ is short for champion if you didn't know that, see even with your limitedlife experienceyou can still learnnew things =D)
Bellard been sitting in his own field for ages now,
Some autist you've never heard of who's locked in a basement somewhere writing software you'd never understand.
Hard to tell between the top 0.1% or so.
Well, who are the top 0.1%?
Terry Davis, alive in Serbia with tupac
check what he made, all by himself
me but i dont program
depends on the definition of the best.
if it's based on the influence/accomplishments I'd say it's ken thompson.
if it's based on some naggerlicious objective criterion like least bugs or best test coverage, he's probably some unknown guy.
if it's based on my ass, I'd say fabrice bellard.
Terry Davis. Yes, I am alive.
What do they eat?
Linux Sebastian Torvalds
the anon who invented sleepsort
BUT are they programmers?
I get the feeling that the best programmer alive doesn't have a github.
