I think you have that completely backwards. Largely people are at the very least tolerant of trans people in person. They might smirk or whatever, but they aren’t usually going to be purposefully offensive.
However, the concept of transgenderism tends to disturb people. The idea that something as fundamental as sex and biology are being attacked and chipped away at and the dominant social actors of society (Media Conglomerates, Pharmaceutical corporations) are wholehearted supporters makes people suspicious. What do they want? Why are companies we know are evil suddenly not evil when it comes to creating a new industry out of a disease that requires a lifetime of treatment but has no outward symptoms?

There are plenty of people like Hunter in the mainstream already. Representing "ugly" disabled/unpassable trans people is important, and their stories are worth listening to. It would be dishonest for the media to only show "cute twinkhons" when they're just the most palatable segment of a wide spectrum of trans people. If those are the only trans people normies see in media, when they encounter a gigahon or a trans woman like the OP with visible deformities, they'll be even more disgusted and treat them worse. Yeah gorillahons are unpleasant to look at, and many of them could (should) try harder to at least look presentable even if they can't pass.
