I always liked the Inhumi from Book of the Short Sun. They feel reasonably grounded for a weird SF story at first, but the more of their (intentionally obscure) history you pick up, the more bizarre they become. >Parasitic trees and vines that succeeded humanity >Some of them recombine with psychic post-humans and achieve sentience, become shapeshifting vampires >Some of these feed on modern humans who arrived in their world through time fuckery, become halfway ensouled and are trapped between chaos and the Logos
how do they have sex?
I read about this thing last year actually, the male usually loses an arm in the process if it doesn't die. Also based OP giwtwm etc
how do they decide which animal is male and which is female
they fuck them
Blindsight / Echopraxia
Just finished reading blindsight. Probably my new favourite scifi. Is Echopraxia equally good? Is it a worthy followup?
no, it reads like a loredump, too many different ideas without a coherent story and he doesnt flesh out blindsight's themes.
>is Echopraxia equally good?
NO
>Is it a worthy followup?
NO
Even Watts himself admits that it's very weak.
Lesabendio by Scheerbart is told from the perspective of a fungus...snake...spider alien thing or something like that.

I interpreted them as the natural evolution of the exultants, who are vampiric in nature, since they leech off khabits.
What if the female gets put in the wrong body, and later decides its male?
They will develop something for that after humans are gone and the cephalopods rise to glory.
The aliens in The Gods Themselves are weird geometric shapes. Asimov kindly tells us exactly how they have sex
