their version of "slavery" was just indentured servitude. In west africa, slaves were guaranteed freedom after some number of years and given money/property upon release. There was no slave class.

      >White colonisers
Unironically this or arabs but whites seemed to enjoy the torture way more

Nah whites hated Black folk and saw them as a race fit to be enslaved. Claiming otherwise is either literal show for liberals to appease them or revisionist cope that slave owners would have mocked you for. What's the point?

How common was for slaves to get crucified?
After Spartacus' revolt, the Appian way had a slave crucified every 30 metres (33 yards) or so.

Crucifixition lasted after Rome became christian? What the frick?

The cross wasn't used as a common Christian symbol until medieval times. That's why the Ichthys fish is associated with some Christian communities, it was the original Christian symbol

Romans were best and worst simultaneously for their treatment of slaves. Roman slavery ranges everything from mining sulfur with a life expectancy of a couple years, to being a popular, famous, wealthy tutor to literal emperors. It all depended on your background when you were conquered by the legions

People truly misunderstand what the antique world is like. When someone is enslaved, moderns think this is just an absolute wrong and it is irredeemable. Who wants to be subjected to forced labour? How evil, how wrong.
Moderns, especially liberal minded people, just simply cannot conceive of the level of poverty, the sheer struggle for survival, that existed back then. They look at our ancient mythologies and religion and think 'oh that's nice, how wonderful, how insightful into the human condition! Oh, no, of course they didnt actually believe it!' Completely unaware of the facts and reality that men everywhere were terrified that some supernatural incident such as thunder or forest fire or plague would suddenly happen for no reason and literally kill them. They think people set up dedications to gods because they are being teehee cute and lovely. No, moron, they did that because they were scared to death of the world around them. Epicurus talks about this at length, for those who know.

So when you introduce slavery into this brutal world were more often than not people cannot survive easily or in any good condition by themselves, slavery enacted by wealthy land owners with farms and operations and houses that produce foodstuffs and materials for building and the necessities of life, this condition of slavery is quite frequently preferable to freedom

The moron will never understand this though. The moron will read this comment and be offended, finding some problem with it

I'm thankful we spent a day or two on slavery in the Roman history segment of my high school Latin class. People don't recognize that manumission has been the historical reality for most of slavery's history. It's only in places like the southern US with extreme racial caste systems where the economic reality of a slave buying his freedom wouldn't be a common reality. At the end of the day, if a slave has served his purpose and offers the owner money in response for freedom (and occasionally patronage) like what happened in ancient Rome is far more merciful than modern conceptions of plantation chattel slavery

On a similar note to people making alters and offerings out of fear, I was a very anxious kid, so I prayed to God a lot asking him to not let demons enter the household and cause harm.

In (black) Africa it varied a lot
In some tribes they'd be treated almost like members of the tribes. In the Kingdom of Waalo, some slaves were even admitted to the royal council.

In some other tribes however, they had even less rights than in white-owned plantations.
The Kinhdom of Dahomey notoriously massacred slaves for the lulz. Sometimes they'd be sacrified en masse in some religious ceremonies. At other times they'd serve as living training target for the amazons...
In some tribes of Ivory Coast, slaves were sacrified en masse during the funerals of the king.

Slaves in antiquity were so tetrically moronic that the work given to them was minimal and punishment almost non-existant

Worst has undoubtedly got to be the Spartans. Is there any contest? Who conquers and enslaves an entire nation 10x your size and subjects them to countless inhumanities for generations? Who could be worse than that?

The best treatment all things considered will be whatever is the more modern, so american

Whites treated them relatively good. They didn't even cut off their dicks.
