Christ, the hamster dance website is still up (renamed I think?) I can remember accessing that with Netscape Navigator 4 and listening to it on a loop.
i guess 2004-2009 since I used to go on ytmnd, watch new grounds, and started using LULZ in 2008. I'm cringing hard rn because I also used to listen to Lemon Demon.
I start with the classic era transitioning to the rage era and had seen some from the experimental era. By the time it switched to dank era I couldn't keep up with trends like a failed normie and lost my only friends
Only really got started near the very end of the ragecomic era, but the MLG era (it has a real name homosexual) is majorly nostalgic. Much better than anything modern could muster.
I used to browse a bit on ebaums world where I saw some in Expiremental era but I was young and didnt want to get caught looking at "bad things." I got my own PC during the Classic era and fucking loved Newgrounds and early Youtube stuff. I feel like "The Game" was the most viral meme of my time, everyone my age knew about it no matter how into PCs/internet they were. I think the rage comic era is where I remember the word "meme" being regularly used, where dank era it was ironically used to describe everything, to post era where "meme" is unironically used to refer to any joke or image.
Probably the dank era I remember growing up watching those mlg montage parodies and ytps. I didn't really start coming here regularly until like 2015. Not an election tourist or anything but I had just gotten a pc and it only took me like 2 or 3 years to turn into a complete degen.
start what? i know almost all of the classic era ones from the pic but i didn't start LULZ until the rage era. also then i got hard into the memes.
unironically shared rage era memes and referenced them in person. its so fucking cringe
>Lost interest during the middle of the dank era.
I took a break during the Dank and Surreal era.
Although I was here for the MEME magic era and how you couldn't stump the Trump.
I came back 1.5 years ago and took the red pill, My life has just gotten significantly worse and I blame this site but there isn't anywhere else to go now
Very end of classic era going into rage era.
Let's be real THOUGH, this is not post-irony era. This is 'jak/chad era. There are memes on the peripheries not related to male hierarchies and physiognomy, but this is the essential preoccupation of the current internet generation.
Also, do oldfags know which were the main medium/websites for disseminating memes in each era? Seems like classic era was all YouTube, rage era was Google Images (lol?) or iFunny (???), dank era was YouTube again, surreal era was Reddit and the memes for the current era are probably LULZ/TikTok? It's difficult to tell for current era perhaps without benefit of hindsight.
started in classic, but the oldest meme i have saved rn is from rage era.
(this isnt even my fave insanity wolf, dunno how he survived this long)
End of rage era, entering into dank.
Experimental. Rip ytmnd
>Rip ytmnd
It's still up. https://ytmnd.com/
I'm from the experimental era. Classical is probably the best era overall but experimental has a special place in my heart.
>experimental

webhamster.com
cryingwhileeating.com
All trace of it seems to be gone.
Same, something about pre YouTube internet even though disk up sucked

Classic but i lost boatload of maymays due to HD crashes
they should go back to omitting Anonymous
i started in classic ended in dank new memes are retarded
Late classic early rage era.
2013-17 for me
also the last entertaining & relevant era of memes, everything sucks now
memes died in 2018
>memes died
Thought provoking.
What was the death knell of memes though?
not really sure what killed them, but I can barely even recall a meme from the last few years.
Tiktok and trannies are what happened
memes died after trump came into office and people started becoming retarded and overly offended
The classic era. But I think I remember when Badger Badger Badger came out, too, which seems to be very late experimental era.
I started going on the internet in the classic era but I didn't start regularly browsing until the rage era
I start with the classic era transitioning to the rage era and had seen some from the experimental era. By the time it switched to dank era I couldn't keep up with trends like a failed normie and lost my only friends
Experimental era but classic era was so much better.
Experimental era. And now you made me feel old. Fuck you, OP.
Only really got started near the very end of the ragecomic era, but the MLG era (it has a real name homosexual) is majorly nostalgic. Much better than anything modern could muster.
ytmnd had its origins in the experimental era but its heyday was early classic era(05-06)

Middle of rage era. This chart is pretty fucking spot on. meme culture just goes so fucking fast now its impossible to keep up.
I started using LULZ in the Classic era, in the midst of my parent's divorce. Saw my first beheading video at the age of 8, porn around the same time.
i miss the dank era so much
Probably the dank era I remember growing up watching those mlg montage parodies and ytps. I didn't really start coming here regularly until like 2015. Not an election tourist or anything but I had just gotten a pc and it only took me like 2 or 3 years to turn into a complete degen.

These aren't the eras of /LULZ/ redditor
I came during the reiko/aerospam era.
Rage era and kept up until surreal popped up which I'm completely alienated from
Experimental Era for me bro.
I loved all those Madlibs sites and that time the dancing angel baby was on Ally Mcbeal? Peak
Mid dank era
Experimental and classic era. Lost interest during the middle of the dank era.
>Lost interest during the middle of the dank era.

I started in 2009
wow, I really am getting older... 🙁
Classic memes for me, 35 years old here
Late classic early rage but my favorite of all time among us I think its really funny three years later
I'm core classic era, but was also aware of some experimental era memes
i have extremely vague memories of dank era, but i think surreal era is where i have recollection of actually saving memes.
Very end of classic era going into rage era.
